On the morning of January 17, 2025, Dan Halkowich passed away at the Health Sciences Centre.
He will be forever missed, but not forgotten, by his wife Corleen; his children, Adrienne and Lee (Tammy); his grandchildren, Bostyn, Connor, Ella, Sarah (David) and Roenick (Dania); his sister Ellen and his brother Roman (Jeannette) as well as his nieces, nephews and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Aleksandra, his sisters, Leona, Ann, and Mary and his brother John.
Dan was born and raised on a farm in St. Martin, MB and lived in the area his entire live. He farmed for many years with his brothers and then operated Dan’s Esso, a gas station and restaurant at St. Martin Junction, with his wife for the rest of his working life. After they sold their business you could find Dan fishing, golfing or hunting. If you didn’t see him doing that, he was in his garden or cutting grass. In the fall he would say the garden would be smaller next year, but in the spring he would plant even more. Dan also had a knack for woodworking, and he spent many hours passing the cold winter days creating his masterpieces.
He loved the mountains and spent many vacations driving to the Rocky Mountains with his family. He even made it to Alaska which was one of the places that he always wanted to visit.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Dauphin Hospital, Ashern Hospital and Health Sciences Centre.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Martin Cemetery Committee, Box 17, St. Martin, MB, R0C 2T0.
