Earl Fredrick Mensforth, 94, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2025.
Born on February 9, 1930, in Winnipeg to Alec and Florence (nee Woodford) Mensforth, Earl followed in his father's footsteps in many ways, serving in the military as a peacekeeper, and an engine specialist. His service sparked a lifelong pursuit of peace, which he regularly hoped and prayed for.
Earl had a deep love and talent for music that was encouraged from a young age. At age 17, played last post at the cenotaph, which was recorded and later used during Remembrance Day assemblies all across the province. He shared his love of music, regularly hosting sing-a-longs at our trailer in Oasis Beach and by singing and playing trumpet at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Winnipeg.
Earl continued singing with the Winnipeg Male Chorus and in St. Bartholomew's choir right until he could no longer.
Earl was known for his warm heart, sense of humour and incredible generosity. He supported and volunteered for many charities, opened his home to welcome folks, and was quick to lend a helping hand, a quiet encouragement, or a candy to put a smile on your face. Earl was full of wisdom, and reflections from having lived through nearly a century of change! He wasn’t just a good listener; he was someone who truly saw the best in others and reflected it back with warmth and sincerity.
Earl touched the lives of everyone he met. Leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories, he is survived by his wife Veronica, daughters, Karen (Russ) and Xiamana, grandchildren, Xyla (Nate), Amaya-Jean (Marcus) and Ximon, great-grandson Colton, sisters, Marilyn, and Lorraine (Frank), sister-in-law Marg and many friends.
The family would like to thank Priority Home Care caregivers and specialists who made his final months as safe and comfortable as possible.
The family is having a private celebration of his life by invitation only on January 30 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church. In order to create a safe space and keep immunocompromised family members safe, we inform guests that a strict no scent policy must be in place, and we request that masks be worn during the service by those who can.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission in his memory, continuing his legacy of compassion and giving.
Earl loved stories and sharing time with those he loved. Any stories, photos or memories can be shared with the family by email. dukeofearl9323@gmail.com

Earl provided funny anecdotes and kept his favorite choir members well supplied with candies. He was a valued tenor with the Silver Notes Choir and will be greatly missed by all his former choir mates. - Posted by: Marguerite Massicotte (Former Silver Notes Choir Member) on: Jan 25, 2025
