CORNELIUS (KEES, CASEY) GESCHIERE

1929 - 2025

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Cornelius Geschiere on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by his family.

He will be missed by his children, Deane (Jake), Gilbert (Laurie) and Robert (Wilma); also grandchildren, Paul VanderHooft (Kelly), Tim VanderHooft (Jessie), Lisa Martin (Lyle), Stephanie Vandenberg (Luke), Shane Geschiere (Karen), Michelle Geschiere, and Ian Geschiere, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.

Cornelius is also survived by brothers-in-law, Carl Maartense and John Maartense as well as sisters-in-law, Levina Maartense and Diane Lagerwerf (Casey).

He was predeceased by Nellie, his wife of 69 years in September 2021 and his entire family of 10 siblings in the Netherlands.

Dad was born on November 21, 1929 in Goes, Netherlands. He was the second youngest. He married "the girl next door" on April 15, 1952. He made up his mind to immigrate to Canada and spent about six months in England to learn English. He was the only one in his family to emigrate. They arrived in Canada July of 1952. After a long train ride they arrived in Brandon, MB. A farm placement landed them near Oak Lake, MB for a couple of years. They ended up moving to Winnipeg where Dad worked various jobs until he took a permanent job at The Bay downtown. He worked there for 34 years.

Dad and Mom bought their first home in Transcona in 1962. Much of the backyard became a garden which Dad meticulously cared for. In their retirement years they moved to a condo and spent winters in Arizona and much of the summer camping. Dad did a lot of walking almost every day into his 80s. He was a longtime member of Transcona Christian Reformed Church.

Dad spent the final three years of his life at Concordia Place where he was well cared for. The family wishes to thank all the second floor staff for the patient and compassionate care of our Dad.

A private family service and burial will be held.
