SOPHIA (SOPHIE) ELLENBERGER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sophia (Sophie) Ellenberger on January 23, 2025 at the age of 92.
Sophia was born in Yugoslavia on January 20, 1933. While still a child, her family resettled in Austria where she eventually met her future husband, Walter. They married on December 19, 1953. In the mid-1950’s Sophia and Walter came to Canada with hopes to have a better future. After a short stint back in Austria, they came back to Canada and called Winnipeg their home.
Sophia is predeceased by her two children, Wolfgang and Belinda; her husband, Walter; sisters, Ritzi and Katie, and her parents.
She is survived by her two grandchildren, Christa (Brandon) and Eric (Danya), and her great-granddaughter, Deanna.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 7, 2025, at 10:00am at Glen Eden Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophia’s memory can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
