With heavy hearts, we announce that Roger passed away on January 27, 2025, at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 89.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years (Ragnhild, née Thomsen); his beloved daughter Lianne (Jeff); adored granddaughters, Bianca and Sophia; and many close friends. Let’s not forget his granddog, Thor, to whom he offered way too many treats.
Roger, only son of Francis and Yvonne (née Girardin), was born in Saint-Pierre (islands of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, France) and spent his early years there. He eventually made his way to Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree and from Dalhousie University with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
After graduation Roger practiced dentistry with the Canadian Armed Forces and spent his entire career supporting the dental needs of our troops, achieving the rank of Major. While stationed abroad, he met the love of his life. Roger and Ragnhild married in Hvidbjerg, Denmark in 1969. They lived in many cities in Western Canada and welcomed their daughter Lianne in Brandon, Manitoba.
Roger enjoyed many exotic cruise vacations with Ragnhild in their early years of retirement. Later, he spent time curling, lawn bowling, and played many games of Bridge with friends.
Ever the proud Dad and ‘Grandpère’ as he was called, he was quiet in his praise, preferring to express his feelings in understated nods of approval, complete with a bit of a mischievous grin.

Cremation has taken place and according to Roger’s wishes no formal service is planned. A small gathering in honour of his life will be planned for a later date with direct communication provided to invitees.
