Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN WASYLOWSKI
On February 4, 2025, at the age of 90, Evelyn peacefully passed away.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Garry (Nielle), Elaine, and Grace (Grant), her grandchildren, Felicia, Brent (Christine), Chad, Cody (Rachel), Marlee (Aaron), Tyler (Payton), and Brittany, and her great-grandchildren, Mason, Jake, Konrad, Anna, Millie, Brooks, Bridger, Kylo, and Brody, and step-grandchildren, Tristan (Tanae), Elysha, and Jenna. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 2012 and daughter-in-law Deborah in 2010.
She was born in 1934 to Ida and Henry Ulrich and grew up on their family farm in the Fraserwood area. She met Peter, and they were married in 1953. They lived on their farm west of Fraserwood and had two children Garry and Elaine. In 1965, they moved to Winnipeg and soon after their daughter Grace was born. The family returned to Fraserwood in 1968, where they opened and operated Pete’s General Store for 20 years. Evelyn also worked at Duha Plastics in Gimli until her retirement.
Evelyn was very creative and enjoyed working on all kinds of projects. She loved to sew, with friends and relatives often bringing things for her to sew, including bridesmaid dresses. She could often be found working on customizing things around her house, giving every surface a fresh coat of paint in unique colours and patterns. She also spent lots of time in her yard, arranging colourful ornaments and flowers.
She was a very dedicated Grandma, spending lots of time looking after her grandchildren when they were young - always making sure everyone said their prayers, their hands were washed, and that the freezer was stocked with ice cream. And as her grandchildren grew up, she invested her energy and nurturing into her little dog Misty.
Evelyn will be missed by everyone who loved her.
"God saw you getting tired, so He put His arms around you and whispered ‘come to me’. With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.”
We would like to thank all the staff at Red River Place in Selkirk who looked after Evelyn over the past few years.
A memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in her honour.
