It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Benjamin on January 30, 2025.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Diane (Luc), Marcel (Wendy), Denis (Jill), her 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by her husband Henri, her son Guy, her parents, Germaine (Rajotte) and Georges Grégoire, and numerous brothers, sisters, and in-laws. She is survived by her sisters, Marcella, Paulette (Germain), Muriel (Patrick) and brother Roland as well as her sisters-in-law, Irène and Marie Jeanne.
Rita was born in St-Jean-Baptiste, Manitoba on May 2, 1935. She was the third oldest of 11 children. She grew up on a farm « sur le rang croche » and moved to St. Boniface to work at the Royal Bank. In 1958, she married Henri and followed him to various construction sites until they settled down on an acreage near the town of St-Jean-Baptiste, where they lived for 50 years. She enjoyed working both on the farm and at the Canadian National bank and raising her family during those many years.
Rita was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was compassionate, thoughtful, kind and generous. She possessed an inner strength, and no problem was ever too big to solve, especially with Henri by her side. She always had hope and prayed for you when times were tough. She was uplifting, positive, and a good listener. Rita made time for everyone and put others ahead of herself.
Rita enjoyed planting her flowers and gardening, travelling to Texas with Henri, and listening to the loons at the lake. She always had time to stop for tea with her family and friends and to share a slice of homemade pie. She was the one who counted the points when you played UNO with her. The one who took the photos and told the stories so the memories of the past would live on. She was proud of her family, her community, and its legacy.
To every life, there are many seasons, and Rita lived and loved every season. She lived her life doing the things she loved with the people who were present in that moment of her life. Rita, you are going to be missed by many, and through faith, we know that you are in God’s hands.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends of Villa Aulneau who made her last years happy ones. The funeral service for Rita will take place at St-Jean-Baptiste Catholic Church on February 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rita Benjamin to the charity of your choice.

To the Grégoire and Benjamin families We are very saddened to hear of your loss. Rita was always a close niece and cousin to our family as we were growing up in St. Jean Baptiste. She was a very loving, smiling and easygoing person. Hervé and I had a few good memory making times with Rita and Henri in Texas. Sadly, we regret that we will not be able to attend her funeral as we are in Texas. We will keep her in our prayers. Noëlla & Hervé Gagné - Posted by: Noella (Grégoire) Gagné (Cousin) on: Feb 15, 2025
