JOHN (JACK) MURDOCK SIMPSON

John Murdock “Jack” Simpson passed away February 2, 2025.

Jack was born on May 13, 1945, in Red Lake, Ontario. He moved to Winnipeg as an infant and grew up on Young Street. Dad had many adventures growing up and was always on the go. He developed a love for photography at Tec Voc high school and this was one of his first jobs working at KCND as a photographer. At Tec Voc he also met the love of his life Marion and they were married on February 24, 1968.

Dad worked as a salesman for many years and then on the military base 17 Wing where he became head of janitorial services. He retired in 2009. Dad travelled all across North America after he retired. Taking the train from Manitoba to BC. He also travelled by bus to Nashville several times and would entertain the bus passengers with his jokes. Dad had the most amazing sense of humour and truly could have been a standup comedian. He also had a tremendous love of music and collected records his entire life. He loved to play music for his friends and family. His favourites were old rock n roll but also he had a bit of an eclectic taste in music.

Dad leaves to mourn his daughter Cyndy Szwaluk (Michael); son Murray Simpson (Tammy Karatchuk); and grandchildren, Mandy and Eric Szwaluk. He also leaves to mourn brother-in-law Bob Freeman (Judy); brother-in-law Gary Freeman; and longtime friend Dave Hyatt as well as numerous other friends and family.

He was predeceased by his wife Marion Simpson; adopted parents, John and Jessie Simpson; biological father Lesley Majury; biological mother Marie Crump; his sister Karen Watt; his parents-in-law, Aubrey and Violet Freeman; longtime friend Nancy Hyatt; his three fur babies, Poncho dog, Taffy dog, and Tawny dog; as well as other relatives and friends.

Thank you to the kind nurses and aides who took care of him these last few years, you know who you are. Special thanks to Trevor and Dustin, who also became his friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on March 1 at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba. If so desired, a donation in his name can be made to a pet charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our deepest condolences to Murray, Cindy and the family. Your dad was one of a kind always had a joke for us, he kept us entertained around the fires, or when he would pop over at Christmas for a drink. He loved his music, we would always hear his tunes blasting, it was awesome. Your mom and dad were the BEST neighbors anyone could ask for. - Posted by: Yvon and Linda (Neighbors) on: Feb 16, 2025

  • Jack and I became best friends when we were around 4 or 5 on Young St. and were almost inseparable until our middle teens, when we went to different high schools. Jack was a jokester and loved playing pranks. We played a lot of pool back then. He remained my best friend when I moved away at 18. My deepest sympathy to his family. - Posted by: David Bell (His earliest and long time friend) on: Feb 15, 2025
