CAROL JOY LAPOINTE

(nee MITCHELL)

April 7, 1964 - February 13, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Carol’s passing on Thursday, February 13, 2025. In God’s presence, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, she passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Violet Mitchell. She is survived by her husband Robert and their two sons, Marc (Shania Murdock) and Gene (Kassandra Friesen). She will be deeply missed by her brothers, Bryan Mitchell (Peggy) and Owen Mitchell (Gayle), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol was born at the Royal Canadian Air Force Base in Zweibrücken, Germany. Two years later, she moved with her family back to Winnipeg. Carol grew up in Crestview, the same neighbourhood in which she later established deep roots. She understood at a young age her desire to help others, and pursued a career in the medical field. After graduating from John Taylor Collegiate, she studied nursing at the University of Winnipeg. She worked as a receptionist at the Mall Medical Clinic; however, the vast majority of her career was spent as a Ward Clerk at the Grace Hospital.

She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crafting. More than anything, her greatest joy was raising her two boys. Carol was a devoted mother and wife to her family. She often referred to Crestview United as her "Church Family". Among her many activities at church, her favourite was the coordination of Christmas hampers with the Outreach Committee. Beyond the church, Carol demonstrated her faith daily through her love and compassion for others.

Carol and her family wish to thank Dr. J. Raubenheimer, Dr. M. Zaki, and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory can be made to Crestview United Church, 1JustCity, CancerCare Manitoba, or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

A celebration of Carol’s life, officiated by Rev. Cathy Maxwell, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Carol was always so pleasant and kind to work with. It was my pleasure to have this opportunity. I am sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Leslie (Coworker) on: Mar 01, 2025

  • Marc and Gene, I am shocked and so very sorry to hear about your mom. We met because of you two, through parent-teacher events, art camp, and also your various shenanigans from middle school and then high school. Over the years, we ran into each other and we would always spend time catching up. The last time was at the school craft sale and we must’ve talked for 40 minutes about you guys and how you are doing. I really loved visiting with her will miss her super friendly smile and warm personality. Hugs to you both. Take care. - Posted by: Patti Fernie (Former teacher) on: Feb 26, 2025

  • I was deeply saddened to learn of Carol’s untimely crossing to the other side. I met her when I began my career at the Grace Hospital on the 5th floor many years ago. Her quiet, calming and helpful nature was of great comfort in a highly demanding work environment. Never complaining and always up for a good laugh, Carol made a lasting imprint on myself and so many that had the privilege of working with her. Gone far too soon, but as we know, the most beautiful flowers are always the first ones to be picked from the garden. My condolences to her family, friends and all those who mourn the loss of sweet Carol. Grieve gently. - Posted by: Melanie (Coworker and friend) on: Feb 25, 2025

  • A toi Robert et aux membres de ta famille, De tout coeur avec vous à l'occasion du décès de Carol. Perdre une épouse, une mère est une grande épreuve. • I’m so very sorry to hear this. I loved working with Carol, and even after I left we’d still talk here and there about crafting and little life updates. She was always always kind and patient with everyone. My sincere condolences to all who loved her. - Posted by: Tamika Enns (Past coworker) on: Feb 16, 2025

  • Rien ne peut soulager la peine de perdre Carol, sauf le temps et l'amour des proches. Grosses bises à toi et aux garçons. xoxo Yolande - Posted by: Yolande Lapointe (Cousine) on: Feb 15, 2025
