MCRAE – KINGDON
Colleen passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with her daughter by her side.
Colleen was the second child of John and Marion McRae of St. Vital and was born in the St. Boniface Hospital. She took her public education at Windsor School and Glenlawn Collegiate. During this time, she was active in Regents Park United Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and was also involved with the C.G.I.T., gymnastics participant and teacher, and a Highland Games and Gaelic Society competitor.
During her lifetime she worked for Federated Insurance, Winnipeg Police, Medical Offices in St. Catherines and Barrie, Ontario, lawyer’s office, St. Amant Centre, Morris School, Canadian Association of Principals in Ottawa and she also did proof reading for the Federal Government. Her community participation continued throughout her life with involvement in church choirs, curling, cross revolver pistol shooting and a Lions Club member since 1983.
As a Lion she was a member of various clubs – Morris, Nepean, ON, Warren, Binscarth, and Brandon. She held many Club and District positions including the Director of Lions Eye Bank and Foundation of Manitoba and Northern Ontario and she served as the District Governor for 5M-13 for 2011-2012. She held a variety of leadership positions, participated in Conventions and Forums, and received various awards including the Third Level Melvin Jones Award, Helen Keller Award, Lion of the Year Award and an International President’s Award.
Despite limits of ill health – spinal fusions, burns, hernias, lung cancer and the use of oxygen 24/7, her faith carried her on while always believing that God never gives you more than you can carry.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Harvey Kingdon; daughter, Cortney Cameron Kingdon, and her partner, Sean Bazin (Calgary); sister, Heather White (Arkansas); niece, Laurie (Florida); nephew, Christopher (Arkansas); her best friend of over 65 years, Eleanor Chestnutt in Toronto (nee McTavish of Cardale, MB), and Harvey’s sibling families, Shirley (Vernon, Burlington), Margaret (Alvin, Binscarth), Martinots (Beryl, Brandon), and Glen (Janice, Whitecourt).
She was predeceased by her parents John and Marion; grandparents Fred and Phemia, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Colleen’s Life will take place at a later date.
Donations in Colleen’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Foundation, 55 St Clair Ave. West, Suite 300 Toronto, ON M4V 2Y7

I was so sorry to hear of Colleen's passing. I have only a wonderful memories of her. My most recent and vivid is sitting on the front porch chatting in the wee hours of the morning when Jenny got married. I'm imagining her and Mom having some pretty good talks up in heaven right now. Sending my love. - Posted by: Valerie Bessey (Family) on: May 07, 2025
