With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Josephine Hattie Horvath (née Rolfe) after a brief illness.
Josie was the last surviving member of her generation, the beloved daughter of Albert and Wilma Rolfe, and the final sibling of nine children. She was predeceased by her four brothers, Martin, Steve, Ken, and Albert and her four sisters, Elizabeth (Lundgren), Abigale (Lindblad), Myrtle (DeReuck), and Jean (Smith). She was also predeceased by her grandson KY Lamont and granddaughter Jennalee Finnsson and son-in-law Glenn Jonasson.
Born in Winnipeg and raised in St. Norbert, Manitoba, Josie was a woman of remarkable creativity and passion. After dedicating 40 years of service to MTS, she pursued her love for baking and established her own business, crafting and decorating exquisite wedding cakes. In the 1990s, she and her husband, Martin, relocated to Arnes, Manitoba, where she embraced her talent for painting, becoming a professional landscape artist. Josie joined the Gimli Art Club in 1998, serving as its president from 2002 onward. Her artistic legacy includes four stunning acrylic murals on the Gimli sea wall. Beyond her visual artistry, Josie was a gifted musician, playing the keyboards, harmonica, and even the musical saw. She was a founding member of the band The Silver Tones, with whom she performed at numerous venues throughout the Interlake region.
Josie leaves behind her devoted husband, Martin; her loving daughter, Catherine; her son, Douglas (Naoko); her cherished granddaughter, Aleah; and her grandson, Tem (Kie). Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Donnelly, Dr. Nazim, the staff at Assisted Living, Home Care Services, Arborg Hospital, and the Arborg Personal Care Home for their compassionate and exceptional care during Josie's final days.
Josie's life was a testament to creativity, resilience, and love. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

My Mom Rose, knew Josie from working together at MTS for many years. Mom sadly passed away last November. I know that if she were still here, she would want to offer her condolences to Josie's family. They were friends and Mom hired Josie to bake my wedding cake in 1977 and she did a beautiful job.Sorry to hear she has passed. A life well lived. RIP Josie. - Posted by: Terry Earl-Sparling (Daughter of her friend Rose Lock (Peters, Fedoronchuk)) on: Mar 04, 2025
