JEANY MATIAS

(née KAWZ)

September 10, 1952 –

February 16, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeany Matias. She died peacefully with family by her side after battling a brief illness on February 16, 2025.

Jeany was predeceased by her parents Karl and Bertha. She is survived by her husband, Victor Matias, her son, Carlos Matias and her daughter, Vanessa (Nolan) Harriott; her grandchildren, Evan and Adrian, niece, Dulce (Dirk) Creighton, and their children, Owen and Ethan and countless other relatives and friends.

Jeany was born on September 10, 1952, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jeany lived in Winnipeg all her life and is the place she met her husband of 46 years. Jeany worked for Manitoba Justice for many years and retired in 2019. Jeany spent her retirement years enjoying time with her family and friends. One of her favourite pastimes was going for lunch with her grandchildren. Jeany enjoyed baking and crafts, such as making celebratory cards. Through her baking and cards, her hope was to put a smile on people’s faces. Jeany will be greatly missed.

We would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Women’s Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.

  • I worked with Jeany as a Court Clerk for over 10 years. Jeany had a one of a kind personality. A straight shooter, empathetic, dynamic, thoughtful and kind. She had the knack of making those around her comfortable and for always making us laugh. You will be missed in this world Jeany. Keep on shining bright in the next one! - Posted by: Ginette Lischenski (Co-Worker) on: Mar 06, 2025

  • I worked with Jeany for many years when she was a court clerk. She was always such a pleasure to see and share stories with. She loved to talk about her husband and family. She was also excellent at her job and was a straight talker. I am sure she will be missed. I will cherish my memories of her. My thoughts and condolences go out to close family and friends. - Posted by: Anne Krahn (Work colleagues) on: Feb 24, 2025
