EMILY ANNETTE THOMSON

May 3, 1954 - February 25, 2025

Emily Thomson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Emily, along with her mother and siblings, moved around Manitoba throughout her childhood due to her father's teaching career. The family eventually settled in Dauphin, MB, when her father became the principal of the local school.

Emily graduated from high school in Dauphin before pursuing her education at the St. Boniface nursing program, where she earned her LPN. Determined and devoted, Emily became a registered nurse (RN) shortly after, all while raising her two young children, Mike and Steph.

Emily dedicated much of her nursing career to Brandon General Hospital, working on A2 Medical in neuro-rehabilitation and palliative care from 1979 to 2001. She spent her final years as a nurse in day treatment before retiring in 2006. Later in life, Emily took on a new role as a receptionist at a private practice, where she became close friends with her boss, Dr. Mary Egan.

Emily was an active member of St. Augustine's Church. Emily and her husband Doug raised their family in a warm, close-knit cul-de-sac, where the children enjoyed a safe, welcoming environment and a watchful eye from loving neighbors. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially on Bingo nights and the occasional visit to Sand Hills Casino. Emily was known for being an exceptional hostess, always eager to entertain and make others feel welcome. Whether it was a BBQ, a graduation, a birthday party, or a pool gathering, Emily would go above and beyond. Her favorite celebration to host was Christmas Eve, where she made sure everyone had a seat, no matter how full the house was. She would often say, “ALREADY?” when guests announced they were leaving, even well into the early morning hours.

Above all, Emily’s greatest joy was her family. She spoke of her children and grandchildren with immense pride and love, always eager to share stories about them. Emily is lovingly remembered by her husband Doug; children Michael, Stephanie (Joe), Nicole (Warren), Samantha (Neil); grandchildren, Alexa, Mikaela, Joshua, Noah, Graeme, Isla, and Eli; siblings, Terry (Merv), Lawrence, Greg, Susan (Craig), Monica (Kevin); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family. Emily was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Adeline Grodecki.

Pallbearers were Warren Clark, Joe Davison, Neil Bridgeman, Scott Hayward, Tim Durston, and Drew Durston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon MB R7A 2B3.
