Charlie Monteyne passed on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Charlie was born in Dry River, Near Mariapolis, Manitoba on November 8, 1931. He is survived by wife of 55 years, Frances; daughter, Lori; grandchildren, Dakota, Samantha, Pebbles, Sabrina, Sebastian, Jason as well as his great-grandchildren. His grandchildren were his happiness. He loved them all so much. One time took his grandchildren outside in the dark during the night and told them there was no Chi-Chi as they would try to be scared. He wanted to ensure they felt safe and that they were always loved.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gabrielle and Henri Monteyne; sisters, Sydney Van Cazel, Emiel Vincent and Marie Bloom and Brother-in-law, Author Bloom.
Charlie was a long-time farmer in Swan Lake, and his favorite hobby was fishing. Later, Charlie and Frances moved to their hobby farm in Shilo, where Charlie loved to share stories. One of his most memorable tales was about a skunk that invaded their home in Shilo. The pesky skunk certainly tested Charlie's patience as he struggled to get it out. He watered and floured the floor to track its movements, then had to build a ramp to help the skunk escape!
Charlie also had a deep love for travel. He worked at Cat Swing Freight, making trips to Shamattawa, and later served as a caretaker in Swan Lake. For many years, Charlie was a truck driver and cattleman. He drove as long as he possibly could, until he was no longer able.
As we say goodbye, let us carry forward the lessons Charlie taught us, the laughter he shared, and the love he so freely gave. That will be his lasting legacy.
He led me beside the still waters Psalm 23:2
