Muriel Frances Rasmidatta (née McNeill) peacefully passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, on January 29, 1941, Muriel was the youngest of ten children. She was predeceased by her husband Visuthi, whom she affectionately called “Ross,” as well as her parents, John and Elizabeth, and her siblings: Henry, Bob, John, Ethel, Amy, Patricia, and Noel. Muriel is survived by her sister Joan of Staffordshire, England and her brother Neville of Perth, Australia.
Muriel’s love story began when she met Ross, a student from Bangkok, Thailand, who was studying at Trinity College in Dublin. They married and moved to Northern Ireland, where Ross began his medical residency, first in Londonderry and later in Newtownards. This was during the turbulent period of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Despite the challenging times, Muriel and Ross started their family, with their children, Tanasut and Piyabutr (Bea), being born during these early years. In 1970, they made the bold decision to immigrate to Canada, settling in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Ross arrived first to establish his practice and find a home, with Muriel following shortly after with their children. What was initially meant to be a temporary stay, became their permanent home.
Over the next 25 years, Muriel and Ross built a life in Portage, travelling, golfing, and entertaining friends. They later retired to Winnipeg to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Known as “Frannie” to her granddaughters, Muriel was deeply cherished by her family.
Muriel was a petite woman, steadfast in her convictions, with a sharp sense of humour and a strong sense of self. Her home was a warm and welcoming place, where she was always ready to offer a cup of tea.
Muriel is dearly missed by her children: Tanasut (Karen), Bea (Dean), and her five granddaughters: Sarai, Olivia, Chaya, Claire, and Praiya.
A private family service will be held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home and Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Arbours at Linden Pointe for the care they provided Muriel during the past three years.

Dear Bea and Tanasut, I am so sorry to hear of your Mum's passing. I have very fond memories of our families growing up together. There were so many Sunday dinners with curry and trifle and late night drives between Portage and Winnipeg. We're sending you warm thoughts and loving kindness as you grieve the loss of your dear Mum.
