JOHN PRESTAY

1930 – 2025

It is with sadness that we announce John’s passing on February 27, 2025, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing he is now with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus, and has been reunited with his beloved wife, Milly, with whom he shared nearly 70 wonderful years.

John will be fondly remembered by Milly’s siblings, Gerry (Velma), Darlene, Joyce, and Sharon (Bob); his cousin Bill (Mary); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his young son Larry; his sister, Ann; and his in-laws, Gilbert, Lloyd (Leanna), Irma (Norm), Bob.

John and Milly shared a love for travelling and cherished their time together. Their faith was central to their lives, and they were long time members of Calvary Temple, where John served faithfully on the security team and as an usher.

A natural prankster, John had a knack for bringing smiles to those around him. Whether among friends or strangers, he was always ready with a joke, spreading laughter wherever he went.

John dedicated 32 years of his life to construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator before retiring in 1993. Prior to that, he worked in a variety of roles, including on farms, in bush camps and in gold mines.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 NLT

  • We will miss Uncle John. He often had “advice” to share with you. When we visited him in his home last, he showed us a travelogue of Alaska and then said “now I saved you a bunch of money, you’ve seen Alaska”. His chuckle will not be forgotten. Praying for comfort and peace to fill all the family and friends. - Posted by: Robert Wittmeier (Nephew) on: Mar 01, 2025
