TIMOTHY JOHN HAMILTON SALISBURY

Timothy John Hamilton Salisbury, 70, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Tim was born on August 23, 1954, in Brampton, Ontario, to Victor and Violet (née Tyrrell) Salisbury.
Tim is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Gwyn; his children, Derek (Siobhan) and Donny (Jessica); and his cherished grandchildren, Caleb, Michael, and Melody. He also leaves behind his beloved brothers, Gib and Stan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Tim was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Violet; and his siblings, Maureen, June, Jeanetta, Vicky, and Michael.
Tim was born and raised in Brampton, where he met his high school sweetheart, Gwyn, at Central Peel Secondary School. They got to know each other over numerous games of Euchre. Tim graduated with honours from Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology. His career as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer led them north to Thompson, Manitoba, where he was employed with Lamb Air Ltd. After several years of frigid, cold winters, Tim and Gwyn moved to a more hospitable climate, Winnipeg, where they eventually started a family. Before long, this loyal Leafs and Argos fan found himself cheering for the Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets. He dedicated his skills to the Manitoba Government, Air Services, working on the air ambulance and water bombers. Tim retired early to follow his lifelong passion for restoring classic cars.
His memorable car builds include his shiny red ’57 Chevy, donning the plate “CUL8ER” to his “TURDLE” collection consisting of: his shiny surf green ’57 Chevy, his grampa mobile, a patina green ’65 Chevy, and the faux patina ’32 Ford Pickup he built for Gwyn.
Tim was known for his infectious laugh and had an incredible talent for crafting anything with his hands. Tim’s handy skills extended to many projects at home including creating the outdoor hockey rink for his children, “Make Believe Gardens”. His love for hockey carried over to coaching, with a focus on fair play and sportsmanship. He was a proud member of the 567 Club, Strokers Hot Rod Club, and Manitoba Street Rod Association (MSRA), where he found community among fellow car enthusiasts. He also participated in initiatives for charity, such as restoring Gilbarco gas pumps for the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation. Throughout his life, Tim built lasting friendships and remained deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
As per Tim's wishes, no service will be held and his remains will be taken to a place that was very special to him, Brampton. The family asks that you take a moment to share a story or fond memory of your time with Tim.
In lieu of a service, take your loved ones out to dinner at your favourite restaurant and order the same thing you always get, just the way Dad liked to do it.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I have known Tim for a very long time, he helped Wayne Koss and myself work on my 57 Chevy convert when we were living in Oakbank Manitoba. I also went to numerous car club functions with Gwen and Tim, I definitely will miss his laugh and friendship - thankful that I went for coffee with him the week before. I know for sure that Mike Hoban, Wayne Koss and Tim will be working on cars in Heaven. - Posted by: Don and Debbie Blowatt (Fiend since 1980) on: Mar 10, 2025

  • It is so sad to hear the passing of Tim and my condolences to Gwyn and the family. Tim and I were great friends and knew him at Govt Air and through car shows. We also worked together in Vocational Education at Seven Oaks School Division and shared life experiences throughout the years. My wife and I have moved last year to the west coast but we met at the Rodarama carshow. We spent hours chatting away on how life was doing for us and the famous Tim's laugh. It was so sad to see he passed away as we will miss him forever. God bless you Tim and keep driving your 567 Chevrolets. - Posted by: Lawrence Danylchuk (Friend) on: Mar 08, 2025

  • Our condolences to Gwyn and the boys. Karen and I were saddened with the news of Tim’s passing. Tim was great person, and a straight shooter. One always knew where you stood with Tim, one of the qualities I respected about him. I will miss hearing his laugh over all the noise at Rodarama, no matter where one was at the car show, all of a sudden you could hear this laugh. That’s was Tim. Gwyn you were a loyal and faithful partner to Tim and always held Tim up and had his back. Take care dear. We will see you at Rodarama. Kindest regards, Harold Kuipers Karen Kempe - Posted by: Harold and Karen (Friends) on: Mar 08, 2025

  • Donny, Derek and Gwen - Condolences on the passing of Tim Kent Johnston - Posted by: Kent Johnston (Hockey Friend) on: Mar 08, 2025

  • Gwyn, I am so sorry for your loss. Tim brightened the day every time he came in. He always had a smile or a story to share and usually managed to get a good parking spot so we could see through the window which one of his cherished cars he was driving that day. He inspired us all as he fought his illness with courage, grace and sense of humor. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. - Posted by: Tammie (Former receptionist for Dr Karen) on: Mar 08, 2025
