BEATRICE ALEXANDRA BABINO

February 27, 1933 - February 26, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Beatrice Babino, who died peacefully on February 26, 2025 at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. She is survived by her brother Allan (Marilyn) Dolenko, her brother-in-law Adam Sorrenti, sister-in-law Helen (Allen) Rouse, and many nieces and nephews, in particular Brion Dolenko, Mark and Greg Smith, who visited and provided support throughout Bea’s final years.

Beatrice, called Bea by the family, was predeceased by her husband Nestor, parents John Dolenko and Anna Trach, sisters Bernice (John) Smith, Phyllis (Waldo) Evason, Marlene (Adam) Sorrenti, and brother Ken (Nadia) Dolenko.

Beatrice was born in the north end of Winnipeg, the third of six children. Beatrice attended Margaret Scott and King Edward Schools and graduated from Isaac Newton High School. In 1950, her mother died following a prolonged illness. At the time, Allan and Marlene were seven and two respectively. Beatrice and her sister Bernice assumed more responsibility for caring for their younger siblings and also worked at their family's corner store on Cathedral Avenue and McGregor Street (which under later ownership became Alycia’s Restaurant). In her mid-twenties, Beatrice was employed by Air Canada where she remained for over 30 years until her retirement.

Beatrice met her husband, Nestor Babino in the 1950s at a church gathering and they were married on September 30, 1961. They enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean islands, Hawaii, and Europe, maintaining a large garden and entertaining family and friends.

Bea and Nestor moved several times before settling in a home in the Town of Birds Hill, East St Paul. After Nestor’s death in 1991, Beatrice remained in the home and continued working until 1993 and maintaining her gardens. After retiring, she traveled to Florida to visit with her sister Marlene and brother-in-law Adam during the winter months. She also visited family in Toronto and Ottawa and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. Always a dog lover, the family have fond memories of her dog “Bambi”.

Beatrice had a sharp mind and a sharp tongue which she used to entertain and challenge her family and care givers. Although Parkinson’s disease resulted in the loss of vision and mobility in her last years, Beatrice remained astute and quick-witted until the very end. She will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Holy Family Home, St Joseph's Unit, who kept Beatrice comfortable for the last several years.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

In Beatrice's memory please consider making a donation to Parkinson Canada or the Lubov SSMI Foundation Inc.
