CHRISTINE ELIZABETH MADSEN

March 2, 1942 - February 23, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister.

Christine Madsen (nee Kirkpatrick) passed away on Sunday, February 23 at the River East Personal Care Home surrounded by family.

She leaves to mourn children: Michael (Kristin), Jodi (Rick), Nichole, Randy (Jennifer); and her grandchildren: Sarah, Kaitlyn, Daria, Emily, Hannah, Tilia, Ella and Connor. Christine is also survived by her brother Charles (Barb).

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Douglas Madsen; parents, Tom and Gertrude Kirkpatrick; daughter Krystal who died in infancy; and Auntie Freda.

Born in Winnipeg, MB while her father was overseas, Christine grew up in Flin Flon and her early years were filled with activities such as curling and singing. Summers were often spent at Phantom Lake or visiting her family farm in Saskatchewan.

After graduating from Hapnot High, Christine moved to Winnipeg to attend the Manitoba Teachers' College, where she greatly enjoyed her time and excelled as a student.

She taught elementary school at Kent Road school and always spoke fondly of her time in the classroom.

While in Winnipeg, Christine continued curling and it was here that she met her future husband, Doug. After a whirlwind romance, they married in 1966. A memorable honeymoon to Expo ‘67 the next year started a lifelong love of travel and outdoor adventure.

It was not long before their four children were born, starting with Michael in 1969, followed by Jodi in 1972, Nichole in 1976 and Randy in 1978.

Christine was never without a camera, capturing many moments throughout the years; from weekends spent on the boat at the family cottage in the Whiteshell, to birthdays, school concerts, travel and Christmas tree decorating, every moment was captured and added to one of the many photo albums.

An eternal optimist she was never without a smile and always made time to chat up bank tellers, cashiers and anyone who she might be standing in a lineup with her.

She was a member of the local Al-Anon group which she found great comfort in.

Christine was also very involved in Brownies and Girl Guides, travelling to Europe with her daughters and their groups twice, as well as numerous camp weekends at Birds Hill Park.

She became a proficient golfer and played a good number of rounds at Elmhurst Country Club. Later in life, Christine and Doug loved to travel as a couple. Some of their memorable destinations included China, Denmark, Spain, Russia, Alaska, Nascar road trips and many winter trips to Palm Springs.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18 at Green Acres Funeral Home.

Family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Saunders for overseeing Christine’s care.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to a charity of your choosing.
