It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our mom Ruth Aurelie Palachuk on March 8 at the age of 88 at River East Personal Care Home. Ruth previously lost her husband (Russell Palachuk) after 58 years and her siblings Doreen, Isabel, Don, and Carol. Ruth and Russ had four children, daughters Cathryn (Cathi) and Cheryl of Calgary, sons Jay and Brendan (Brinn) of Winnipeg. Ruth had five grandchildren Brook, Teresa, and Katie and Tamara and Jeremy and five great-grandchildren twins Benson and Scotty, and Lennon, Millar and Madison.
Ruth was a talented writer and loved to write stories, poems and family history! She loved to play Bingo and Yahtzee. She loved going to the States to shop and trips to Halfmoon Drive-In for hotdogs! Ruth had a true love of Halloween and would often dress up to deliver packages for the courier companies she worked at on Halloween.
The last few years have not been easy on Ruth as she had dementia, cancer and had recently fractured her hip. Before that she could be seen walking the halls of the home visiting with everyone. Ruth loved to walk and often participated in Walk a Thons. One of her favorites was the Walk for Alzheimer’s. Just 12 years ago they presented Mom with an award for the “Top Fundraiser for an Individual” at the age of 77.
Thank you River East Personal Care Home for the amazing care that Ruth received while she was there.
There will not be a service at this time. Please celebrate her life with a Donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
