Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ALBERT MCGEE BEAUCHAMP
After a long illness, James passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2025. James was born in Buffalo, NY on May 28, 1964, to Murray and Barbara (née McGee) Beauchamp.
James is survived by his two children, Jill (Eloise Teichmann) and Lauren (Nick Dudeck); their mother Anna Schmidt; and by his sisters, Michelle Beauchamp and Nannette Hoogsteen (Doug); his niece Suzy; and nephews, Andrew, Matthew, Daniel, and Jonathon.
James spent his preschool years in Detroit, MI and Guelph, ON. He attended school in Kitchener-Waterloo, ON until his final years of high school when the family relocated to Dauphin, MB, and then to Winnipeg in 1981. James graduated in 1985 from the University of Winnipeg in Arts, with a major in Religious Studies.
James had a passion for books, and spent most of his working life in various aspects of the book industry: with positions at McNally Robinson Booksellers, Pemmican Publications, Lone Pine Books, and the former Faith Journey Bookstore. He was especially proud to have been awarded the Barry Britnell Scholarship by the Canadian Booksellers Association. The Scholarship consisted of an expenses-paid trip to represent Canada at the annual International Congress of Young Booksellers in Stockholm in May 1992.
James chose to be confirmed in the Anglican Church as an adult and was active for many years at St. Paul’s Anglican, Fort Garry.
James loved listening to CBC radio, especially programs like Vinyl Cafe and Quirks & Quarks. His pursuit of knowledge was unlimited and lifelong. He loved science fiction in all mediums, but especially through books. When he wasn’t reading, he enjoyed music, theatre, baking bread, and fishing for trout at West Hawk Lake.
The family is grateful to the many caregivers who supported James as his health declined.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at St. Matthews Anglican Church, 641 St. Matthews Ave.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.

I just learned of James's passing today. Mar 31. I am sorry to have missed the gathering to remember him. I remember him from his time at the Faith Journey Bookstore. He had a witty sense of humour and was so well read about so many things. I am sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Lynda Trono (friend and co-worker) on: Mar 31, 2025
