EUNICE THELMA ROBERTS

1937- 2025

Eunice Thelma Roberts, nee Crook, age 88, died on March 11, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Winnipeg on January 2, 1937 to parents Philip and Kathlyn, Eunice grew up at 377 College Street, St. James.
Academically gifted, and with strong artistic tendencies, Eunice excelled at school and graduated from St. James Collegiate High School, where her popularity got her elected as Vice President.
She married Norman James Roberts on October 5, 1957 at the Deer Lodge United Church; and, after a honeymoon at Detroit lakes, the couple moved to Montreal. Two years later Norm was transferred back to Winnipeg, where he and Eunice would eventually settle at 322 Nightingale Road.
Throughout her life, Eunice did secretarial work and was both an excellent typist and skilled at Pitman’s shorthand. She was also a talented interior decorator and spent many hours making her home both functional and beautiful. She was knowledgeable about Colonial history and furniture. Her outdoor interests included swimming, biking, x-country skiing. She had a keen eye for colour and texture, a green thumb, and was an excellent seamstress. She had a beautiful singing voice and could reduce an audience to tears with her rendition of “Send in the Clowns.” Her sons were in the band Crash Test Dummies, and she was very proud of them.
She leaves behind her husband, Norm, brother Doug (Debbie), her sons Brad (Michele) and Dan (Sheri), and grandchildren, Sidney and James.
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Cremation has taken place, and a family gathering will be held at a later date.

Beautiful memories are a gift! Love Chris & Grant, Connor & Alli, Robyn & Eric - Posted by: Christine Jonsson (Family Friend) on: Mar 20, 2025

  • I worked with Eunice at a small Bank in the 80s. On my first day working there, Eunice was, of course, so friendly. We started talking and I told her I grew up in St James which led to where and what street. When I told her my original name, she laughed and said we’re related by marriage! I was young and a bit rudely I said “oh we couldn’t possibly be!” She laughed and said “yes, your aunt married my uncle!” And it was true! We became good friends and I counted on her for her good life advice which she only gave if asked. Over time, we lost touch but I have always missed her. She was such a wonderful person!! - Posted by: Shirley Nicholson (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2025

  • Alzheimer’s might have slowly taken Eunice away from us, but the memories we shared with her and Norm will always be with us. The saying that beauty is the best possible version of yourself on the inside and out would best describe her. She was kind, intelligent, talented, and a giving friend. To Norm, Brad, Dan, Robert, and extended family, we send you our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Sheila and Michael Bross (Friends) on: Mar 15, 2025
