In Loving Memory
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Terry Wiebe, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. Terry was born in Winnipeg on April 6, 1952, and lived a life full of love, purpose, and generosity.
In 1968, Terry met the love of her life, Abe Wiebe. Their connection was instant and unwavering, a love story that spanned more than five decades. They married on May 19, 1973, and built a beautiful life together, sharing 52 years of love, laughter, and adventure. Their greatest joy arrived when they welcomed their daughter, Kendra, into the world - a role Terry cherished most of all.
Terry pursued her education at Red River College and found her calling in the legal and government sectors, specifically in public relations and fundraising. Terry dedicated her talents to Northern Affairs, Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD), and Sscope. However, it was in her final role at L’Arche Winnipeg that Terry found her true passion, As the Communications and Fund Development Director, she poured her heart into the organization, spearheading fundraising initiatives like the annual Walk for L’Arche. She was instrumental in building and furnishing Dayspring and the Welcome Centre, leaving a lasting impact on the community she loved.
After a lifetime of hard work and service, Terry embraced retirement with open arms. She and Abe spent their winters in Arizona, where she discovered new joys -biking, golfing, exploring, and playing pickleball, earning several awards for her skill and dedication. Her love of adventure and discovery extended far beyond Arizona; Terry had a deep passion for travelling and exploring new places. Whether it was road trips, international adventures, or discovering hidden gems closer to home, she found joy in experiencing different cultures, landscapes, and meeting new people.
Above all, Terry’s greatest happiness came from time spent with those she loved. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring sister, and an incredible friend. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Shirley Vanderhorst. She is survived by her beloved husband, Abe Wiebe, her daughter Kendra, her siblings, Lynda Whitlock, Gerald Vanderhorst, and Patty Carr, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nursing staff of the palliative care ward at Riverview Health Centre.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Teresa, we welcome friends and family to join us in paying tribute to a life well-lived on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Terry’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the countless lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to L’Arche Winnipeg or the Joy Smith Foundation in Terry’s honour.

Terry’s warm, bubbly smile met me when I first became a L’Arche Winnipeg volunteer 20+ years ago and we remained friends thereafter. An enormous space is left at her passing; her generosity and welcome to assistants, volunteers and friends into her life, her positivity and kindness, remain in our hearts as happy memories. I believe Terry would want us to take up the banner to love life and one another with intention and make the world a better place, her mantra was “kindness”. Deepest condolences to all of Terry’s family and her dear friends. My heart goes out to you. - Posted by: Liz (Friend) on: Apr 05, 2025

So showed working with Terry at L’Arche almost 20 years ago. She was kind, loving, and so much fun to be around. She even generously met with me a few years later to offer fundraising advice for a new position I had. Such a truly wonderful person. So sorry to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Tammy (Colleague) on: Mar 30, 2025

My sincere Condolences to Abe, Kendra, Lynda, Gerry & Patty and all their extended families. Our families were entwined from birth as our parents were good friends and hence the children from both the Vanderhorst and the Ball families were good friends. Our parents both raced thoroughbreds. I have reflected on many memories of Terry over the last 60 some years. I remember one of the last times we spent together at the the Race track and we shared a $2.00 bet on a trifactor ticket and we won. It was only 250.00 or so we shared but I remember Terry's elated reaction of that night still to this day from the win. Such a sweet, kind person. You have my sympathy to the family. May God bless you and rest in peace my friend. Condolences from Treasure, Hal, Rick, Shane and our Mom Louise. - Posted by: TREASURE SEAR (FRIEND) on: Mar 28, 2025

My heart goes out to you, Abe and Kendra. I just think of Terry, so high spirited, friendly, caring. What a loss for you. This is just so unbelievably sad. With only 1 1/2 years difference in our age and being from a large family that consistently gathered together, we were very close from childhood. I especially think of all the waterskiing we did as kids at West Hawk Lake and in later life, popping by Lynx Lodge for a visit. And Terry was always actively involved in our many family get togethers, including organizing them. I also want to mention my mom. She would be heartbroken to know about Terry. My mom adored Terry and Terry was so kind to her and they had a special bond. I am so sorry that I will not be in Canada to attend Terry’s Celebration of Life. I would like to give you both a hug. Me and Tom send our sincere condolences ✌️❤️ - Posted by: Cheryl Conley-Strange (Cousin (first)) on: Mar 24, 2025

My dear sweet Terry; I still can’t believe you’re gone; I will cherish our friendship which lasted over 60 years; growing up together in East St. Paul and sharing all of life’s experiences; with its ups and downs; lots of laughter but tears too; I will miss your love of life, your non-judgmental ways, your compassion and caring and of course your laughter; you were one of the good ones; Linda Semkiw /Slobodian - Posted by: Linda semkiw (Friend for 60 years) on: Mar 23, 2025

Below is Terry's last email to me. You will forever be missed, Terry, your fellow Aries- Genaro "Thank you, Genaro for reaching out to me. I am so very grateful that God brought us together during our lifetime, that we were able to share and grow through God’s love, as we got to know each other better through our years together. God blesses us in so many different ways. I have never felt more blessed by God than at any other time in my life, nor do I believe has God fillled Abe’s and my heart with more love for each other than He has done for us during this difficult time. Genaro, you have been a wonderful friend, one I have trusted, laughed with and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with. I pray that God will continue to richly bless your life, keeping you safe and well for many years to come. ❤️🙏🏻 Terry Wiebe Sent from my iPad, September 18, 2024, 11:59PM" - Posted by: Genaro Guevarra (Colleague and friend) on: Mar 22, 2025

How blessed I have been to have shared a life with my sister Terry. My memories and our adventures began when Terry was 4 years old and I was 6 years old and continued with our trips and adventures right up until August 2024 when my brave sister was diagnosed. Terry was “Good”. Everything she did came out of her desire to be good and to encourage and support those she loved.. this was her life mission. She loved and adored Abe and Kendra and she cherished her friends and she had many lifelong friendships. She loved adventure and to laugh and she loved to challenge herself.. There are no words to explain how much I will miss her, but I cherish a lifetime of memories with her and I cherish what’s to come… I know that I will see her again. Kendra and Abe, I am so sorry for your loss. Love Lynda - Posted by: Lynda Whitlock (Sister) on: Mar 20, 2025

I went to grade school and all the rest with her back in East St Paul. She was the kindest most happy wonderful friend a person could have. She had a laugh like no other.. it was heart full and musical and when you were in her company she made you feel so special Never said a bad word about anyone ! Very calm and patient with people. I think she enjoyed every minute of her life and if being honest she was a person I wished to be just like. The world won't be the same without her. Rest in peace dear friend 💗 - Posted by: Arlene May (School chum) on: Mar 18, 2025
