Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryA. ROBERT BAIRD
Peacefully, Andrew Robert Baird passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 90 years of age, in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Born October 26, 1934, to parents Charles Baird and Lillian Beck, Bob grew up in Northern Manitoba. He spoke fondly of the area, particularly Sherridon, Lynn Lake, and Laurie River. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts from Bemidji State University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba.
Bob taught for 34 years in the Seven Oaks School Division; the last several years as the coordinator for technology and applied arts. He was so proud of “his” teachers and the many students he was privileged to teach.
Left to mourn Bob’s passing are his wife, and best friend, Julie (Riese); son Darren, and his children; close grandson Kirk Calder (Nicole McIntosh); and sister Joyce (Brook) Adams. Bob was predeceased by his first wife Patricia (Bailey); daughter Andrea; and brothers, Bill, Walter, and Gordon.
Bob loved his five acres in the bush! Not one to travel far (although he did visit all the provinces, except PEI), he preferred to stay close to home. In retirement, Bob frequented the local coffee shops, checked out the crops, and dropped in on neighbours. Always one to voice his opinion, Bob carved out his own path in life.
Special thanks to the staff at Betel Personal Care Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Bob in the past three and a half years – truly wonderful caregivers!
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to Bob’s favourite charity, the Salvation Army, 203–290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2N8, or a charity of choice.

Mr. Baird was my drafting teacher at Garden City Collegiate in 1974. I remember he had a big voice when he taught us. I loved his class and will always remember him. Great teacher. Always think of what happened to my former teachers. - Posted by: Walter Mazepa (Former student) on: Mar 29, 2025

Thoughts and Condolences to Julie and the family. Bob was a great guy and will surely be missed. We were friends and he was my boss at Seven Oaks School Div. He was a great Administrator and helped the C.V.E. department to be successful. Bob will be missed for those who knew him as he always had a story to tell. God Bless you Bob and rest in Peace. - Posted by: Monique and Lawrence Danylchuk (Friend) on: Mar 23, 2025

Bob was a great guy. He was my first industrial arts teacher and taught me drafting. He had great aim with a piece of chalk or a brush. He was a great teacher and instructor who had tons of patience for those who put in the effort. Later in life when he moved to an administrative position within Seven Oaks School division, he became a customer of mine. We always had a great relationship and I admired his talent and skills. I know he will be remembered and missed by all. - Posted by: Dave Grant (Former Student and business associate) on: Mar 22, 2025

Bob was a true throw back of a real man. He taught me at Garden City Collegiate where he was my teacher in shops. Bob was hard nosed, but fair and respected by all. I remember him losing his first wife in a car accident maybe 50 odd years ago. He suffered but continued his professional career as a teacher. Bob and I didn’t see each other till about 15 years ago at a club in Selkirk he was same old Bob just a lot more mellow. Rest in Peace Bob. - Posted by: Bruce Hallmuth (Friend) on: Mar 22, 2025
