RAYMOND ALBERT ERNEST FAWCETT

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Raymond Fawcett, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Selkirk Regional Health Centre in Selkirk, MB.

Raymond was predeceased by his partner of 37 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Brown, sister Joy and parents Lorna and Roy Fawcett.

Raymond will be lovingly remembered and missed by sister Lynda and brother-in-law Lorne; nieces Lauren, Rhonda (Buzz), Tracey (Brad) and nephew Corey (Kerry); stepchildren Ed (Kathy), Norman (Debbie), Kip, Todd and Jill (Colin).

Raymond was born in Winnipeg on July 12, 1948. As a child he spent summers at the family cottage in Victoria Beach. Though Winnipeg was where he was born, Victoria Beach was where he wanted to be, so as a teenager, he made the move to Joy and Lorne’s home where he became more of a son to them and a big brother to his 3 nieces.

Raymond worked around the beach at local mink ranches until he got a job with the paper mill in Pine Falls. This job would turn out to be Raymond’s lifelong employment as a papermaker until retirement.

Raymond was a part of a community family. He was a member of the Victoria Beach Fire Department. He loved to play baseball with the local All-Nighter’s and Beach Bandits men’s teams. He was a great curler and even enjoyed collecting the honour of getting an 8-ender award during one men’s bonspiel. He was a member of the Victoria Beach Snow Drifter’s and enjoyed trips to Elk Island and Hecla for many years. He loved to watch sports especially the Jets and watching with friends was even better. If it was a hockey night you knew you would find him at Chuck’s or Colin’s watching and discussing the plays of the game. He also enjoyed a good game of pool with Rene and Donny (Boog).

Raymond loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisher throughout his lifetime. Most of his free time from work was spent hunting or fishing with friends. Though he did hang up his gun quite some time ago, fishing never left him. Along with his boat and fishing rod, Raymond took up a minnow net and with his good friend Donny, minnowing became their passion. He loved gardening and took great pride in the fruits of his labor, enjoying and sharing fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and potatoes and spent many hours figuring out how to protect the same from the deer and rodents of the wild. He spent hours outdoors cutting firewood to heat the home and always had to cut more to make sure there was always a good stockpile.

Raymond was a gentle, soft-spoken man. It was rare to hear a harsh word from his lips or a bad thing to say about anyone. He made many friends throughout his life and the family would like to thank all who were there for Raymond. A special thank you to Bunny and Jim for everything you did for him always but especially in the last few months.

With broken hearts we will miss and cherish your memory always.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Beaches Community Centre, 65 Provincial Trunk Hwy 59 Victoria Beach at 1:00 p.m.

If you wish, a donation may be made in Raymond’s memory to the Alex Anderson Memorial Sports Club or East Beaches Animal Shelter.
