SHIRLEY IRENE SQUIRES
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Irene Squires on March 31, 2025, at the age of 86, at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg.
Shirley was born on November 5, 1938, in Carmen, MB, but spent her life in Winnipeg, the city she called home. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings: Allan, Joyce, Ken, Ray, and her twin sister Sylvia. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bob Dann (Katy), Debra Dyna (Ed), and Mark Dann (Debbie); her special niece Ann Harry; her grandchildren, Brennan Dann (Amanda), Brittany Dann, and Ken Dyna (Jenna); and her great-grandchildren, Ezra, Ozzie, Zara Dann, and Alton Struck-Dyna. Extended family was important to Shirley; she also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A hardworking and dedicated individual, Shirley spent much of her life working at Solo Foods, Clifford's Ladies Wear, and later running her own in-home child care business. She was a devoted caregiver to her twin sister Sylvia throughout her life, demonstrating boundless love and dedication.
Faith was an important part of Shirley’s life, and she was a longtime attendee of Atlantic-Garden City United Church for as long as she was able.
In her later years, Shirley found joy in acrylic painting, creating cherished pieces for friends and family. She also had a special fondness for lobster dinners at The Keg restaurant, which she affectionately called "The Thunderbird." When visiting Shirley, she was often watching her favourite Chuck Norris in *Walker Texas Ranger*.
Special thanks to the many home care workers who helped Shirley live at home for many years, especially case coordinator Maria Szymanska. We extend our deepest gratitude to the nurses at Seven Oaks in the 4rd floor unit 4 and 5th floor unit 7 for their care. We particularly appreciated Dr. Abbott for his compassionate family support.
Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and artistic spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
