ELEANOR LORRAINE MARNOCK

(nee MELCOSKY)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Lorraine Marnock (nee Melcosky), beloved wife of the late David Allan Marnock. Eleanor entered into rest surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 5, 2025, at the Minnedosa Health Centre at the age of 64.

Eleanor was born at the Minnedosa District Hospital on November 13, 1960, the fifth child of Matilda and Peter Melcosky. She began her early education at Sandy Lake Elementary School. In 1967, her family moved to Minnedosa, where she continued her schooling at the Minnedosa North School and Tanner’s Crossing School. During Grades 9 to 11, she attended Minnedosa Collegiate Institute. She worked as a waitress at the Voyageur Restaurant after school and on weekends. After completing Grade 11, she took on a role at the Minnedosa Inn - Niakwa Pizza. In the Summer of 1978, she embarked on a summer adventure with her friends where she was employed at the New Chalet Lodge in Clear Lake. It was there that her deep love for Clear Lake began. In the fall of ‘78, she moved to Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, where she worked at the Niakwa Pizza Drive Inn. The following year, she returned to Minnedosa and continued her work as a waitress at the Valley Motor Lodge.

In May of 1981, Eleanor met and married the love of her life, Dave Marnock. Eleanor and Dave began their life together by purchasing a home in Minnedosa, MB. In 1983, their only son, Ryan David Peter, was born. A year later, Eleanor was hired by the Manitoba Telephone System as a CPT Operator in the Minnedosa Office. She was transferred to the Brandon location in 1988. During this time, she worked as a Telephone Operator and then became a Customer Care Service Representative in 1995. Eleanor retired in 2009 after 25 years of service with MTS. Other side careers included a Sales Rep for Tupperware, Partylite, and Avon. Eleanor and Dave eventually purchased the family home in 1984. It was there that they raised Ryan with their various fur babies.

Eleanor cherished her family and friends. She loved to spend time with family at the cabin at Thomas Lake and later in Clear Lake. Many hours were spent on the water with loved ones aboard the pontoon boat. These gatherings became the backdrop for the annual family theme parties. They also embraced the snowbird lifestyle enjoying ten winters at Pine to Palm in Weslaco, Texas.

Eleanor faced many challenges in the past year but persevered through them all. She moved to Kinsmen Kourts II in Neepawa, followed by a brief stay in McCreary, eventually making her way home to Minnedosa, where she settled into the Minnedosa Personal Care Home. It is here that the staff became her new family! Eleanor became affectionately known as V.I.P. and Ellie to her new adopted family. She enjoyed all of the activities that were offered to her, including making perogies and cookies, winning chocolate bars at BINGO, playing crib, and participating in crafts. Eleanor’s love for socializing was evident. Eleanor’s favourite pastimes included coffee time with friends, watching curling, and as of late, becoming a Winnipeg Jets fan. She loved meeting old friends and new people. She spent many hours on the phone, texting, and FaceTiming with her family and friends.

Eleanor’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. She was a devoted grandmother who spent countless hours spending time and chauffeuring the grandchildren to and from school and to different activities where she would be their number one fan! She was so excited to see Alexis graduate from high school. This past year, she loved watching Brinley perform Highland dancing at the Personal Care Home. She was most excited to make her way to the new Sunrise Credit Union Centre to watch her grandsons play hockey. Eleanor was also a beloved Auntie Nanny and a huge supporter of all of her nieces and nephews. She was always the first to receive the medal standing in the dance competitions and the sporting events.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Dave, her parents Peter and Matilda, her in-laws David Sr. and Beryl, her brother Earl, and her sister Pat (Terry).

She is survived by her son Ryan (Camille) and grandchildren Alexis, Brody, Brinley, Nathan, and Kaden. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Shirley and Elsie (Bruce), brother Allan, sister-in-law, Lori, sister-in-law Bette (Reid), and many beloved nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Eleanor never let her illness take control of her life. She showed resilience and determination each day. She often said - "I might have MS but MS doesn't have me"!

"Perseverance is the act of continuing to move forward, even when you want to give up." - Rachel Scott

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2025 at the Minnedosa United Church at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place.
