John was a great friend for many years. I have known him since I was about 10 years old. We grew up 1 street apart in Windsor Park. John was a year and a bit older than me so we did not become good friends until Junior High when we started to socialize more while playing neighborhood sports and games. John was a guy that I always had a lot of respect for. He was tough but not a bully. Smart too. As we grew into our 20s we socialized together frequently. John could always be counted on for an interesting conversation with strong opinions! We had many of the same interests in music, sports, and the occasional beer… or two. We bowled together in a couple of leagues for many years. I was very honored to be part of the wedding party when John and Wendy got married. As we got older and families came along we did not socialize as much but we still made time to get together for the occasional coffee. Tracy and I greatly enjoyed having coffee or lunch with John and Wendy. We will miss John very much. See you on the other side big guy. - Posted by: Craig Hancock (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2025

Our condolences to you Wendy and James. We remember Johnny as a kind gentle person with a good sense of humour. (like his dad). Hoping to see you at a Toews gathering sometime soon. - Posted by: Denton and June Barkman (Cousin) on: Apr 23, 2025

I knew John for many years, did not to go school with him but met him through other Windsor Park friends and we became friends and hung out together for years with the other guys. He had a great sense of humor, loved music and a good joke. When he was working for cablevision and was caught up, he would come by the house and bang on the door to wake me up as I worked midnights, and say put the coffee on. He would finish the day with me until quitting time. The long weekends in Grand Forks were memorable. I will will miss you my friend, rest in peace, goodbye. - Posted by: eric oman (friend) on: Apr 19, 2025
