BERNADETTE RUBY FREDBORG

Peacefully, with family by her side, Ruby left us to join her ancestors on April 16, 2025.

She leaves to mourn her Husband Andy, Son Corey (Carmen), granddaughters Emmrie and Shyla, daughter Marianne (Chris) Gainey and grandsons Andrew and Tyrian. Predeceased by her mother, Kathleen, and sister, Diana, she is survived by sister, Angela, brother, Brian (Lisa) and brother Allan. Also left to mourn her passing are her brother-in-law Charles (Maura) Fredborg, numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Traditional brothers and sisters.

Ruby was born in Calgary, Alberta and lived part of her youth on Cowessess First Nation with her maternal grandmother Florence Delorme. Here she also attended the Marieval Indian Residential School. Eventually Ruby went to live with her mother and siblings in Kleefeld, Manitoba. Due to family tensions Ruby ended up in the Foster Care system. Ruby had several jobs while in foster care including working at Lees Village Restaurant in Steinbach, it was while working at Lees she would meet the love of her life, Andy.

Ruby met Andy in January of 1978, and by July of the same year they were married. Through the years they raised a family, worked at their community center and attended the kid’s sporting events. Ruby worked at Red River Co-Op for several years before attending Adult Education to get her High School Diploma. After graduating with honors and receiving bursaries she attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction.

In 2001 Ruby started employment with Manitoba Telephone System, where Andy also worked, and was employed until retirement in 2015. Since 2015 the years have been spent traveling to Pennsylvania to visit the Gainey Family, visiting family in Saskatchewan, attending Pow-Wows and living a good life. She particularly enjoyed attending and dancing Pow- Wow with her granddaughters and connecting with family at these events.

The family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their treatment and care of Ruby since her diagnosis.
