With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon Charles McNeill, aged 81, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Gordie aka Oatcake was born on November 24, 1943 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the beloved son of Donald and Edna McNeill. From a young age, Gord was known for his quiet determination, kind heart, and deep respect for family and community.
He is the loving husband of Filipina McNeill (née Dismaya), with whom he shared over 57 years of unwavering love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they built a home full of warmth, love, and cherished memories. He especially loved accomplishing April Fools jokes on Fellie every single year.
Gord was the proud father of Don (Lori), Melanie (Shawn), and Kenneth. He led by example—teaching the value of honesty, hard work, and compassion. His children will always carry his wisdom, gentle spirit and especially kindness in their hearts.
He was also a proud grandfather of Trae, Brianna, Jaida, Evan, and Janell, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He adored them beyond words and cherished every moment spent cheering them on, telling jokes, singing songs, and sharing all his moments with them filled with love.
Gord is lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings: Wes (Mary) and Joanne (Bill). He was predeceased by his cherished siblings: Raymond and Marlyne (Don). He will also be remembered by his brothers and sisters in law Pete and Auring Dismaya, Alex and Barbara Dismaya, and Alicia Dismaya as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He dedicated over 34 years of his life to working with CN Rail, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues through his integrity, work ethic, and unwavering sense of responsibility. He brought calm and kindness into every space he entered.
Beyond his career, Gord was a man of deep generosity and compassion. He volunteered for many years at Concordia Hospital, always ready with a comforting word and a helping hand. He also gave quietly and consistently to a number of charities, never seeking recognition—only hoping to ease someone else’s burden.
Outside of his service and work, Gord found joy in life’s simple pleasures— listening to Elvis, watching a good game of football, baseball, hockey, and Jeopardy. He enjoyed travelling the world with Fellie. He especially loved travelling with his children and grandchildren taking them to Disney multiple times and taking them on his favourite travel activity - Cruising.
Gord has always been a loyal friend, and a man whose greatest joy was bringing comfort to others whether you knew him or not.
Gord's legacy is one of strength, humility, and unconditional love. He gave more than he ever asked for in return. His absence leaves a deep and aching space in the hearts of those who knew him, but his presence will be felt forever in the lives he touched.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered—for the life he lived, the love he shared, and the example he set for us all.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 10:00 am at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with a reception to follow. All who knew and loved Gordon are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, and in loving memory of Gord, the family kindly invites those who wish to honour his life to consider a donation to the Manitoba Lung Association or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Our condolences to you, Filli and family. We were saddened to hear of Gordon’s passing. I remember Gordie loved to come to the farm as a young child and having a weiner roast in the ditch with his and our family. I also remember traveling on the train when he was a porter. Fun times at family gatherings at the farm as we visited from BC in later years, when he would drive out the aunts from the city. May your memories and his love give you comfort at this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Sandra (Campbell) and Bruce Madu (Cousin) on: Apr 28, 2025

Mike and I are very sorry to hear of Gordon's passing. We remember years ago when he and Filli came to Ottawa for the Grey Cup, and we have a good visit as they and their friends were gearing up for the game. Heartfelt condolences, Wanda. - Posted by: Wanda Jamieson (Cousin) on: Apr 27, 2025

Dear Fillie and family. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge Gord's passing. Gord was truly one of the kindest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We spent a great deal of time together in our late teens and early twenties when he moved to the city to seek his fortune. He may not have found the conventional type of fortune that most attribute to the term but he did indeed find his fortune in lifelong friends and his treasured family. His legacy will always be remembered by all who had the benefit of his acquaintance at work, church, or anywhere they may have met. My family and I send our sincere condolences from our new home in B.C. - Posted by: Dave Spiers (Cousin) on: Apr 26, 2025

A good joke or a story of days gone by brought light to many days at the Conc!! Peace and love to the family💞. - Posted by: Robyn Pajak (Friend) on: Apr 19, 2025
