Surrounded by family, Marion June Jenkyns passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the great age of 98.
Mom was born on the family farm at Grandview, Manitoba to Herman and Sadie Effler. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Victoria General Hospital in 1946. In 1948 Mom married the love of her life, Ray and they raised five children together, settling in Charleswood. She put her nursing career on hold in 1954 to become a “stay at home mom”. Mom started the first private kindergarten in Charleswood for four years and later on enjoyed 12 years as a Mary Kay Consultant and earned the “Mary Kay car”.
Mom’s greatest passion was her family who she loved dearly and was extremely proud of. She was always attending their events and enjoying time with family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister and friend.
Through the years, mom had many interests: bridge, gardening, lake life at the Whiteshell and Lake of the Woods, entertaining family and friends, golf, square dancing, reading, Scrabble, card games, crafts, knitting/sewing, cross country skiing, theatre, arts, visiting and travelling.
Volunteering was an integral part of Mom’s life, being a “people person” it balanced her family life giving her fulfillment. She volunteered for the Charleswood United Church Auxiliary, Brownies, Girl Guides, and the Eastern Star Chalet Congregate Meal Program. Mom was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star joining in 1966 holding many offices and making many lifelong friends. The Masonic and Shrine Motor Patrol members were dear to her as well, as her husband Ray was a proud member.
Predeceased by her husband Raymond in 2014, Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mark (Kris), Bob (Brenda), Calvin (Peggy), Susan (Dennis), Dean (Donna), 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Norma Effler and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Marion’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
