EDWARD JOSEPH WALTER OBIREK

With much sorrow and sadness, we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, brother and friend.

Edward was born in Melrose, MB, to Andrew and Mary Obirek.

He was a very happy man, who loved everyone, loved feeding and singing to the chickadees and they loved him. Ed also loved animals, dogs, Pepper and Baby, cats, Layla and Tom. Ed worked for CP Rail for 31 years retiring and then took a course and received a certificate for security guard for Gerda Steel, which he was so proud of.

Our trips to Vegas with our friends, Joe and Sally, John and Pearl.

Thank you to all staff at Tudor House where Ed lived for four years and also to Selkirk Regional Health Centre staff for the excellent loving care he was given.

My dear, loving husband, my memories of you and our 66 years of marriage are treasures that will be in my heart forever.

My dear dad, I will always remember the lessons you taught me in life, the love you had for everyone, especially mom. RIP dad.

God has you in His keeping, we have you in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son Sheldon; sisters, Elsie (Jim, son Glen) Wagner, Elenor (Dan and family) Skoropad; brother Ronnie; many nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law Susan Obirek. He was predeceased by sons, Kelly (2004), Darrel (2012), Timothy (2015); moms and dads Kowalchuk and Obirek; brothers, Bert (June) and John; sisters, Florence Sitarz and Jean Denesiuk; and sister-in-law Margaret Klimchuk.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Auntie Dorothy & Sheldon - Our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of our dear uncle Eddy. He definitely was our “fun uncle”. We have fond memories of him playing his harmonica and being the life of the party at the farm. He was so kind to everyone and Taylor still talks about his fishing outing with you both. God bless him in heaven. Now he is entertaining the angels and Darrell, Tim, Kelly and Baba and Gege and the rest of the family who left us. May you both find comfort in your memories. He was a very special man. ❤️ - Posted by: Heather & Barrie Kidd (Niece) on: May 01, 2025

  • Dear Auntie Dorothy and Cousin Sheldon, We are so sad to hear that Uncle Eddie has left us. He has gone to be with God, but we who are left behind are all diminished. He was so much fun; we will not forget the man so full of life who danced at our wedding! Every day, Uncle Eddie lived a Good Life, in preparation for eternity. We believe that he is with God because even in his tragedies, he showed us that no matter what, we must try to be joyful, to live with a smile, and in hope and with trust in God. We know that in time, his sweet ways will return to you abundantly, and strengthen you on your journey. “Blessed are the Pure of Heart, for they shall see God.” Mt. 5:8 Love, Robert (nephew) and Leanna Obirek - Posted by: Robert and Leanna Obirek (Nephew) on: May 01, 2025

  • Aunty Dorothy and Sheldon, I have fond memories when you and Uncle Eddy used to come to Baba's and Jaja's with Darrel, Kelly, Timmy and Sheldon on Sundays. We had great times and a lot of good memories. Unfortunately, Uncle Eddy passed away, but he will be welcomed with open arms by your 3 sons, Baba and Jaja and all who predeceased him. May that ease your pain knowing that and may you be comforted by all the precious memories you shared together.
