MARJORIE ECKERT

On April 27, 2025, Marjorie Eckert passed away peacefully. Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late Donald Eckert, who predeceased her in December 2008.

She leaves behind her children, Gail (Nancy), Shirley, and Gordon, as well as she was a proud Gramma and Great-Gramma to Alastair (Jennifer), Stuart (Melissa), Katherine (Jordon), Madeline (David), Margaret (Marcel), Evelyn, Amelia, William, Stevie, Audrey, and Sidney. She was also a special "G.P.M." to Kim, Allana, Jenna, Landon, and Merlin.

Marjorie was born in Winnipeg on July 13, 1931. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur G. and Elizabeth M. (Betty) Lush, her brother Garnet, her sister Shirley, and her grandson Matthew.

She received her education at Riverbend School for Girls (Balmoral Hall) and the University of Manitoba. Following her marriage to Donald in 1955, Marjorie dedicated herself to raising her family and spent many years volunteering in her community, at school, and in her church. As Donald's health declined, Marjorie transitioned from volunteerism to becoming his loyal navigator and “gopher” (on and off the road) and eventually his primary caregiver.

Marjorie spent her final months at Oakview Place, and her family sincerely thanks the staff for their care and kindness.

Respecting her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Karen Lumley officiating.

Donations may be made to St. Andrew's River Heights United Church Foundation (255 Oak Street, Winnipeg, MB R3M 3P7) or to Agape Table (P.O. Box 26111, Maryland RPO, Winnipeg, MB R3G 3R3).

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Gail, Nancy and family: Our deepest condolences to you all. This beautiful lady had a larger than life personality to which I was lucky enough to experience on many occasions during the school years. Even going away with them to Lake of the Woods and they were just like my 2nd parents. Kind. Funny. Warm. Tall and elegant. Rest easy Marjorie. - Posted by: Colleen H Morrison (Family friend) on: May 03, 2025

  • Dear Gail, Shirley, Gordon and all the Eckert Family: My deepest condolences on your loss. Marj was such a unique and interesting woman of many interests and talents and did not hesitate to share her recipes, knitting "how to's" and wisdom. Over the years, during visits, dinners and sitting with Marj and Donna as they had their pre dinner drinks, I got to know Marj and her ever expanding family, their adventures near and far and loved hearing her stories and how proud she was of all of you. I enjoyed these times very much. She will be forever missed. Yours, Sidney Macaw. - Posted by: Sidney Macaw (Family Friend) on: May 03, 2025

  • What a special person. Marjorie always asked about my garden, and came to see my lilies. Her banana bread was the best and she made sure to include me when she gave some away. A heart of gold, she always made you feel important. Rest in Peace Marjorie. Prayers of healing and strength to the family. - Posted by: Colette Berriault (Friend) on: May 03, 2025
