BERNICE DORIS KLEYSEN

Bernice Doris Kleysen (née Vanderstelt) passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, in her vacation home in Key Largo, Florida, surrounded by her beloved husband of 68 years, her children, and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert; her children, Brenda (Franz), Tom (Barb), and Rob (Rick); her grandchildren, Karl, Max, Alex, Shannon, and Stephen; and her great-grandchildren, Teo and Stella.

Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She gave generously of herself to all who were fortunate to know her. Throughout her life, she was always active and volunteered her time to numerous causes, always putting her family, friends, and neighbours at the heart of everything she did. When she wasn’t caring for others, she found joy in her flower gardens, tending them with love and was able to capture their beauty on canvas winning various prizes for her artistic portrayals.

Bernice’s family welcomes you to join them as they celebrate her life on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Mary, Mother of the Church - 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 12:00 p.m.

“We are each part of a much bigger story of God’s love.”

  • To the family; deepest sympathy and condolences to you. I only got to know Bernice in the last few years, as part of PEO and in the MMOC Parish. She was so caring and generous, always quick to offer help and support in the many philanthropic activities we worked on together. I will cherish memories of how she was always so well dressed, put together and ready with a warm smile whenever we saw each other, but also always willing to "roll up her sleeve" and help out. May your memories and time spent, serve as a comfort now, and know that her deep faith and caring spirit made an impact on many of us. - Posted by: Desiree Downey (Sister in PEO) on: May 12, 2025

  • I am very sad to hear about Bernice's passing! She was a kind and lovely person. I worked for her at Travel Design a few years ago. She and my Mum, Margaret Brown, played badminton together at the Wildewood club. My Mum really liked her and said that she played well and was a lot of fun. My heart goes out to you, Hubert, and the family. An extra hug to you Barb. Allyson Brown - Posted by: Allyson Brown (employee and friend from a while ago) on: May 06, 2025

  • On behalf of the Wyndels' Family, Hubert, our deepest sympathies on the loss of Bernice, your devoted, loving wife and the mother of your children. Times flies, but I do remember as a young boy, when we lived on Braemar, you were with my dad, and a few others organizing your bachelor party at the kitchen table. You were so excited to be marrying the love of your life and what a beautiful, long journey together. - Posted by: james wyndels (second cousin to Hubert Kleysen) on: May 05, 2025

  • Uncle Hubert, Rob and family. It has been an honor to call Bernice "Aunty". Her genuine kindness and compassion for all has never gone unnoticed. Aunty Bernice brightened any room with her presence and grace, and simply made the world better by her example. Her generous nature and positivity will not be forgotten. Our deepest sympathy to your family. Jodi Dusik Sharpe and family - Posted by: Jodi Dusik Sharpe (cousin) on: May 05, 2025

  • To all the Kleysen Family: So sorry for your loss. I remember your mum from various engagements with my parents and occasionally meeting Bernice at The Bay when she and my mother were shopping for clothes which turned into a "Oh that looks great on you" and a "catch up" on their various adventures and what all the children were doing. She was a lovely woman and will be greatly missed. Yours, Sidney Macaw - Posted by: Sidney Macaw (Family Acquaintance) on: May 03, 2025

  • Rob, to you and family please accept my condolences on the death of your dear Mom. She was one of a kind who put others first always. I remember when I first met her & you at Sunday Mass at St. Paul's Chapel when you lived on Thatcher Dr. near the golf course. May you, your partner, and all the family have the special graces you need during this sad time. She has gone home to the Lord and I'm sure is cheering all of you on from her 'perch in paradise'.
