GIORGIO (GINO) COTRONEO

May 28, 1931 - May 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giorgio (Gino) Cotroneo, who passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on May 1, 2025, at the age of 93 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, his hard-work ethic and his wisdom.

Giorgio was a beloved and devoted Husband, Father, Nonno, Brother and Zio. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Angelina, his daughters, Domenica (Diego) Vassallo and Anna (Thor) Einarson, his sons, Frank (Pina) Cotroneo and Robert (Anna) Cotroneo, his grandchildren, Rosario (Juliana), Gino, Giorgio (Stacy), Angelina (Raffaele), Isabella, Giorgio, Antonio, Lorenzo, Angelina, Felicia and Gino.

Giorgio is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Angelina (Antonio), Antonia and Matteo (Alice), his sisters-in-law, Domenica (Late Antonino), Domenica (Late Vincenzo), in-laws, Antonia (Late Diego), Antonio (Grazia) and Serafino (Joanne), and his many nephews and nieces in Canada and Italy.

Giorgio was predeceased in death by his parents, Francesco and Domenica, daughters, Francesca and Rosetta, sisters, Natalina (Filippo) and Anna, brothers, Antonino and Vincenzo, his father-in-law Francesco, mother-in-law Anna and sister-in-law Santina (Rocco).

Giorgio’s main passion in life was his family and he spent most of his time working hard to provide his family with the best life possible.

Giorgio was born on May 28, 1931, in San Roberto, Italy as the eldest son to his parents, Francesco and Domenica. He grew up in San Roberto and as a boy he began working for the “town builder”. Giorgio learned quickly and soon became skilled in all aspects of home building. As a young man he attained the status of ‘maestro’ or ‘master builder’.

When his childhood sweetheart, Angelina, immigrated to Canada, Giorgio followed, convinced he would marry her and then return to Italy and resume his business as the towns “maestro”. Love and opportunity changed that plan: after their wedding in July 1967 he laid down roots in Winnipeg, founding his own home building company, Gino’s Homes in 1968. Over five decades he helped shape entire neighbourhoods, each foundation poured with the same care he gave his own household.

Giorgio married the love of his life Angelina in July 1967. They went on to raise their four beautiful children, Domenica, Anna, Frank and Robert. As they raised their children, Giorgio and Angelina maintained traditions from their homeland of Italy and instilled strong values and morals with the importance of family and hard-work ethic at the forefront.

Giorgio went on to be the beloved Nonno to his 11 beautiful grandchildren who loved and looked up to him deeply. Giorgio was sure to instill and pass on these same morals and values to his grandchildren.

There are no words to truly describe the Husband, Father and Nonno Gino was. He was one of dedication, faithfulness and devotion. Giorgio was the true rock of our family, he loved his family with his whole heart and soul and his presence brought comfort, happiness and love to everyone.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the entire Palliative care program and 8th floor team at St.Boniface Hospital.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on May 14, 2025, at Holy Rosary Church. Condolences at 10:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. A private entombment will follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery.

  • When I worked at TD the Wilton branch Gino was my client. He was a man of integrity and he loved his family very much. He always talked about them with such love and devotion. The houses he built were were exclusively the best (according to the houses on parade) you could have seen the handiwork of a master it maestro as he was called in Italy. He was a genuine client, one of my best and he will never be forgotten. God be with Angelina, Anna, frank and Robert and the rest of the family. I send my condolences to you all. May God's peace be your portion at this time of your loss and Angelina remember one day at a time. God bless you all. - Posted by: Mona Bhopalsingh (Friend) on: May 10, 2025

  • My husband Brian ( passed June 19/23 ) worked with Gino stuccoing his fine homes. Gino was a gentleman above all else. A family man and so respected in the Winnipeg building trades.
