GEORGE SEARS

Peacefully, on Friday, May 2, 2025, George Sears, husband of Trudy (nee Lyric), passed away surrounded by family.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Sears of Kenora, Ontario. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Grant, Mark, Keith (Edna); and grandchildren, Jack, Michael, Erik, and Drew.

George was born in 1941 in Orillia and grew up in Kenora. He received his civil technology diploma from Ryerson University in 1964. After graduation, he moved to Winnipeg and married Trudy. He worked in Regina, Gillam and Winnipeg in engineering until he retired from the City of Winnipeg in 2000.

George was the “go to guy” for friends and family. He was always ready to lend a hand, rebuild a motor, install a window, or renovate a house for you. He was the guy to ask if you had a problem you couldn’t solve. He would listen and come back later with a prototype or workable solution. In 1988, he achieved a major personal goal and built his own house with little help on Forbes Road. Forbes would become the meeting place for many drop-ins, vehicle repairs, and even an outdoor wedding.

George enjoyed coaching hockey at Norberry Community Centre, golfing, fishing, and volunteering with the 3rd Nokomis Cub Scouts and the Klondike Derby. Above all, Grandpa loved spending time with his grandkids. He always went to their sporting events and never missed a chance to cheer from the stands. Whenever on-call babysitting was needed, he was there without hesitation. A favourite pastime was meeting the kids for breakfast at the Jolly Mug and catching up on the latest news.

“Forbes” will never be the same.

We would like to thank the staff at Riverview and Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.
