John Hume Edwards, aged 86, passed away at Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon Manitoba on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
John was born on October 12, 1938, in Ninga Manitoba, to Jack and Mildred Edwards. His father Jack Edwards passed away when John was just a young boy. Mildred went on to marry Bill Mennie and a blended family was formed of that union. The family moved to Carman then to Dauphin, finally settling in Brandon.
Throughout his life John worked as a mechanic, drove fuel trucks and gravel trucks and was the manager for ICG Propane in northern Saskatchewan and Southern Manitoba.
John met Anne Lemaire and they were married August 30, 1958. In August 1960 they welcomed their only son Dwight William.
John had many interests, including fishing, travelling, and spending time at the cabin at the lake. However, his most beloved passion was his horses and his dogs, a love he passed on to his son and grandchildren.
John delighted in travelling within Canada and to the US with his wife and close friends, reveling in seeing new locations. Many travels also revolved around horse shows with family and friends; the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair was always a highlight for him. His summers were chock full of many horse shows around the province. He loved riding horses, and did so well into his 70s, and had many memorable adventures driving his teams of ponies.
He could talk to anyone and everyone, no one was a stranger to John. He had the gift of gab and loved chatting over a cup of coffee. John had the best sense of humour and jovial personality, making everyone laugh with his wit and one liners.
John is survived by his wife Anne; son Dwight; daughter-in-law Peggy; grandchildren Lindsay, and Brooke (Drake) and great-granddaughter Josie. Also survived by brothers, Lloyd Mennie (Barb), and Larry Mennie; brothers and sisters in law Ken (Patti) Lemaire, Jean (Bob) Anseeuw, John (Angie) Lemaire, Victor (Norma) Lemaire, and all the numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hope there’s lots of horses and dogs in heaven John.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
As per John's request, there will be no funeral service.
