KENNETH GREGORY HICKS

1951 - 2025

It is with immense sadness that we share, that on May 16, 2025, our devoted and loving Husband, Brother, Uncle and ‘Dad’, Ken, passed away suddenly, but after a long illness, at home surrounded by his loving Wife Barbara and his devoted ‘shadow’, his dog, Miss Kitty.

Ken was born in the West End of Winnipeg on October 6, 1951, to Jack and Carrie Hicks.

Family was a very important part of life to Ken and he was devoted to all of his family. He took care of his parents as they aged. Once his Father passed away, Ken was at his Mother’s place every single morning to make sure she was alright. After Joyce’s husband Peter passed away, Ken was always there for her. He was also very close to his nieces, Joanne and Brenda.

Ken and Barb met late in life, but had 20 good years together. They purchased property in Dufresne MB where they have resided with all their furbabies.

Ken had a love for animals. His cats and dogs were the world to him.

When Ken met Barb, she had a dog named Nikita. Once Nikita met Ken, well she became his dog and he loved her to pieces. Then his most precious canine furbaby joined the family. Miss Kitty was ‘Dad’s’ Girl and ‘Dad’ loved her. Miss Kitty was beside ‘Dad’ when he left this world and she misses him terribly.

Ken is survived by his Wife of 20 years, Barbara, Barb’s family and his most faithful companion Miss Kitty. Sister Joyce Fleming and his nieces Joanne Fleming and Brenda (Rick) Fehr. Many numerous Friends and Business Associates, many of which he was still in contact with. And especially the Business Associates who became great friends.

In accordance with Ken’s wishes, Cremation has taken place with a Private Family Interment at a later date.

A Memorial Service to remember Ken and Celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.

If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I will always smile at the memory of our Uncle Ken taking my sister and me to A&W for root beer when we were kids and letting us ride in his Datsun 240Z sports car. We were so thrilled and honoured. Uncle Ken you exemplified what it means to be a strong, solid man with so much kindness. We could always count on you. You demonstrated how to keep on going no matter what life brings your way, Hope you are enjoying a cup of tea with Grandma and Grandad up in Heaven. We will love and honour you forever. • Tea time was always special when my Brother would stop by. I really enjoyed our chats and some laughs. He had quite the sense of humor which we shared. Come spring and summer after our visit he would always check on the ferns that originated from our parents home. Ken's love of family was evident as he just knew when to help without being asked. Once my Brother took his first steps he never stopped. I remember him as a very active child full of energy which carried on throughout his life. He kept going while facing many many challenges until his last day. I am in awe of his strength and resilience. On what turned out to be one of his last visits he told me he had purchased the variety of cucumber seeds he planned to plant. He also said he was thinking of planting marigolds this year. I am and will always be grateful to Ken for being the best Brother anyone could ever have. Joyce Fleming Sister of Ken Hicks - Posted by: Joyce Fleming (Sister) on: Jun 17, 2025
