• Ruth and I were greatly saddened to learn of David's passing. I first met David and his parents and sister Joan when we were teenagers. We quickly became good friends as I very much appreciated his exceptional intelligence and quiet, but delightful sense of humour. We spent a significant amount of time together during our university years, and subsequently through marriage and the births of our respective children. I think it is fair to claim that David and I were almost solely responsible for the profitability of the Donald Street Pizza Place in Winnipeg during the 1960's. David, Penny, Ruth and I shared many entertaining times together in Winnipeg, the mountains around Banff, in England and in Spain. While circumstance and geography ultimately resulted in our losing touch with one another, those memories remain as a cherished reminder of many years of friendship. Ruth and I send our condolences to all David's family - we hope that, as they do for us, your memories of David will help you to deal with the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague and physician. • I worked with David for several years on the Interdisciplinary Summer Research Program at Deer Lodge Centre. He always provided the “teamwork” seminar where he explained to a group of undergraduate students from diverse disciplines that the leader of a team should be the person who best knows the patient and their needs. He was patient-centred in his approach and he inspired students to take this approach. He was a gracious and gentle person with a quiet dry sense of humour. • I worked for many years at Deer Lodge and Dr David was one of the best and kindest. A true gentleman who always gave patient and staff needs his best. Also a very good friend and fun to golf with. • I worked with David years ago at Deer Lodge Centre, where he was Medical Director. I look back on him as a respected physician, dependable colleague, and always a strong patient/ resident advocate. His contributions to the early development of Geriatric Medicine will always be remembered in the field, and by countless patients and their families. • Pat I am truly sorry for Dr Murray’s passing. I had worked many years with Dr Murray as my career was full of rehab. • I worked with Dr. Murray for several years when he was the Medical Director at Deer Lodge. He was always professional, kind, caring and willing to listen.
