It is with heavy hearts and great sorrows that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Weger on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Paul was enjoying a summer morning working in his yard, he was 83 years old.
Paul was born October 17, 1941, the son of Sophia (Bender) and Gottlieb Weger. They resided on a farm outside of Neudorf, Saskatchewan. Growing up, Paul attended school in Neudorf, he graduated in Killaly, Saskatchewan. Paul worked at the Neudorf hardware store, Schramms Hardware and helped at a local garage. Paul possibly still had tools from the hardware store.
When Paul wasn’t working or attending school, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball in Neudorf and Melville, Paul earned the nickname “Crowbar”. The local Neudorf arena was known as the Weger Complex, since Paul’s father contributed to the design and construction of the arena. Paul also enjoyed spending time fishing with his family and friends in the Qu’Appelle valley.
After his high school graduation, Paul attended a technical college in Moosejaw to pursue a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduating college, he moved to Regina to work at CKCK Radio. He was employed at CKCK Radio in Regina. During these years in Regina, he met and married his lifelong partner, Carol Peterson in 1969. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in August.
The following year, Paul received a job offer from CKX Radio and TV in Brandon, Manitoba. Paul and Carol started their family in 1971, by welcoming their first son Jayme Paul Weger. In the following years, they welcomed two more sons, Jody Darren Weger in 1973, and Jeremy Don Weger in 1978.
Paul was passionate while parenting his children and was always proud of his children. He spent many years coaching sports teams, volunteering at the Westridge Community Centre, and building backyard rinks. Hockey made winters busy including Wheat King Games. Brian Propp and Brad McCrimmon visited Paul at home while they played for the Wheat Kings, as Brian was from Neudorf.
Summer weekends were spent camping. This involved Paul putting his 6 hp Evinrude boat motor in the trunk of his Ford Grand Torino. He would then load his aluminum boat on the roof of the car, hook up his pop-up camper and load a case of Pic-a-Pop for his kids. Arriving at the campground (Rivers) the camper would be unhitched, set up and it was time to find a grassy area close to the water and remove the boat from the roof of the car. Paul dragged the boat to the water, then carried and mounted the engine & gas tank. Now he was ready to fish. In the winter the Ford Grand Torino would be on the ice for ice fishing.
In 1980 A cabin for sale caught his eye in Rivers. With input and help from Beth and Harvey George the unfinished cabin was purchased. Paul installed countless tongue and groove pine boards with a hammer and hand saw to finish it. It has been enjoyed by many and is still is today. Paul spent summers there, many family gatherings and of course fishing. Around 2004 Paul retired. Many of his retirement days involved his friend “Jack” and son Jeremy enjoying the beach, swimming, and drinking his famous homemade beer.
His children recall and participated in many building projects. “We are sure they had power tools, but he still used a screw driver to install the drywall in the basement of the house, hand saws to build his garage, and just a hammer to shingle the house”
Something Paul looked forward to was an annual northern fishing trip with his brothers. Throughout his entire life, one of Paul’s many passions were fishing and shared this with his boys. He was also always willing to take grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was often referred to as the “fishing technician”.
On Paul’s 63rd birthday, he welcomed his first grandchild, which was Jayme’s first daughter, Mya. In the following years, Paul welcomed two more grandchildren, Jayme’s second daughter Jessie, and Jody’s son, Willie. Paul enjoyed attending as many of his grandchildren’s activities as he could, always a familiar face in the crowd.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; brothers Elvin and Ralph; sister Katherine. He will always be remembered by wife Carol; sons Jayme (Tina Bell), Jody and Jeremy; grandchildren Mya, Jessie, Willie; sister Margaret Kardash, along with extended family including, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Brandon Cemetery (Sec 51) with a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following the service at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, MB.

Carol, Jamie, Jody and Jeremy - Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear husband and dad. His smile was so infectious... he and Carol were always ready to help us and everyone else who needed them. Paul's care of his family was amazing. Paul took us to the train north of Brandon many times and was always there to pick us up even if it was forty below... Going to Brandon always felt safe because if we needed help with opening our car when we locked the keys in or any other kind of silly mistakes a phone call to Paul and he was there to help.. Will miss you Paul and your special friendship...Many thoughts to you Carol and boys... Joyce and family - Posted by: Joyce George (friend) on: Jun 04, 2025
