Peter Friesen passed away on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025 at the age of 97. Peter was born on September 1, 1927 in Halbstadt, Manitoba to Dietrich and Katherine Friesen.
Peter had many siblings with whom he remained close throughout his life. He loved to share stories of the time he spent with them performing in bands and beginning business ventures. Peter also cherished his connection with his many nieces and nephews - beaming with pride at the title 'Uncle Pete'.
Peter met Emily in 1953 and they married on November 5, 1955. They soon moved to Winnipeg and started a family before moving into Peter’s dream home in 1974. Peter retired in 1991 after 35 years with Building Products & Concrete Supply. In the 1980s, they built a cabin in Twin Beaches. Peter loved to entertain family and friends and always looked forward to giving tours of all he had accomplished at both properties ending with the beautiful gardens. Peter was an avid gardener and enjoyed planting everything from flowers, tomatoes, and carrots to pumpkins, strawberries, and even watermelons.
After retirement, Peter and Emily spent a lot of time visiting family and travelling. They loved to return from every trip - no matter how long or short the distance - with stories, photographs, and items they had purchased to share with family and friends. One of Peter’s favourite annual adventures was the trip to Carrick Days where he would perform music in the early morning parade. Peter always loved to perform, but the opportunity to share the stage with his siblings always filled him with such joy.
In November 2024, Peter and Emily celebrated 69 years of marriage before Emily’s sudden passing in January 2025.
Peter will be remembered by his four daughters - Janice (Larry), Audrey (Gary), Laurie, and Corrie - his eight grandchildren - Reashelle, Kandis (Darren), Rylee, Erin, Kaylin (Mitch), Carlyn, Deshon, and Kyla - and his seven great-grandchildren - Maeve, Miller, Owen, Alivia, Emilia, Myles, and Emmett.
All who knew and loved Peter are invited to attend the interment and gravesite service to be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB on June 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
