JAMES (JIM) HILTON RENNIE

June 28, 1935 - June 1, 2025

Our Dad Jim passed away on June 1st at the Misericordia Hospital.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, daughter Sharon (Barry) Cherpako, son Allan (Susan) and much loved grandsons Adam Cherpako (Paige Drobot), Derek Cherpako, Trevor Cherpako, Keith Rennie (Melody Jacobson) and Sean Rennie. Also, sisters-in-law Bernice Rennie, Marlene Mansky and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers Robert, John and his twin brother Alex Rennie, sisters and brothers-in-law Helen (Len) Preiss, Jennie (Ted) Widlake, Roland Mansky and niece Marion Widlake.

Jim lived his whole life in Transcona. He attended Central School, and lived with Joyce on Burnaby Bay until he went into hospital. Dad took great pride in looking after his yard and house and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. He loved a well manicured yard or a perfectly shovelled driveway.

Dad worked at Canadian Oil, Air Canada and the International Air Transport Association before retiring in 1993. He loved cottage life, first on Pinawa Bay, and then on Lee River. Many happy memories for our family are there at the cottage, especially with the grandsons.

Jim enjoyed many travels with Joyce, family and friends throughout Canada, the US, Europe and Great Britain, including several ocean and river cruises.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service with respect for Jim’s wishes.

A private family interment has taken place at Glen Eden cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Auntie Joyce, Sharon (Barry), and Allan (Susan): To all the family, I wanted you to know that Uncle Jim was a genuinely kindhearted man to me and my entire family throughout our lives. Christmas Eves, visiting at the cottage, going fishing with Aunty Junie and Uncle Jim driving the boat...our families shared so many wonderful memories. Whenever I saw Uncle Jim, he always had a smile, and your yard and driveway were always kept clean. As your paperboy, Aunty Joyce, more importantly, as family...I want to send all of you my love. The best of times we had!! Sharon and Allan know that I am thinking of you...and to this day, I always think about you guys and your families every Christmas. Miss all of you very much. With love, take care of yourselves, Darren and Tiffany Olsen - Posted by: Darren Olsen (nephew) on: Jun 15, 2025

  • I graduated from RRCC with Sharon (Computer Technology, Class of 1984), then worked at Sperry Univac Defence Systems Division/Unisys with her, and with Barry and his brother Darrell. It's many years ago now but it seems like only yesterday. I'm sorry for your loss Sharon. My Mom passed away last summer (on July 5). It's hard losing a parent, but with the memories, they're always close by your side. Condolences to you and your family. May your Dad rest in peace. - Posted by: Bradley Pisiak (college grad with Sharon then co-worker many years ago) on: Jun 14, 2025

  • Dear Joyce and family. I was so saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. My Sincere Condolences to you all. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but Love leaves memories no one can steal. May all the wonderful times you shared together somehow ease your sorrow at this sad time in your lives. Love and hugs to you all. ❤️❤️ - Posted by: Marlyn Harding (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2025
