FRANCES (FRAN) ROBINA MARTENS

(nee LOVE)

December 30, 1953 - June 14, 2025

Peacefully, with family by her side Fran, mother, nana, and best friend passed away at the Tri-Lakes Killarney Hospital on Saturday June 14, 2025.

Born the fourth child to Jim and Ruby Love, Fran spent her primary years growing up in Shilo, Manitoba, then to Winnipeg where she attended General Wolfe Jr. High and graduating from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate.

While working in her early years at Westbrook Medical, she met the love of her life and soul mate, Ron. They married on March 5, 1977. Ron’s profession led them to Alberta, where their daughter Kara was born. Missing family and friend connection, they decided to move back to Winnipeg where the family set their roots in Charleswood and the birth of their son, Ryan.

As her children grew older, Fran’s “stay at home Mom” lifestyle switched back to her working career at the Charleswood Medical Centre, Grace Hospital and then Health Science Centre where she worked until retirement.

It was in 1988 when Fran and Ron built their family cabin at Pelican Lake where their children were raised with the love of cabin life. This became their retirement home. There was always an “open door” policy at the Martens cabin for family and friends alike. Fran’s joy was being around people. “The more, the merrier”.

Throughout Fran’s years she enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, Ringette, snowmobiling, golfing, boating, and quiet times by crocheting and knitting. Her adventures travelling with Ron along with family and friends took them to many places like Greece, Hawaii, Mexico, Cuba, Barbados and Costa Rica.

Fran was predeceased by her husband Ron; her son Ryan; her parents; sisters, Sandy and Nancy; her brother Bill. She will be forever remembered by her loving daughter Kara and son-in-law Wes; grandchildren, Ashton and Tyler McCallum and Paisley Martens; sister Sheila; along with many other family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care, comfort and support provided by the Tri-Lakes Killarney Hospital staff.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tri Lake Health Centre – Palliative. Please make checks payable to Tri Lake Health Centre, Box 5000, Killarney, MB R0K 1G0. In the memo field or in a note please include that you would like to direct the donation towards the palliative care unit and include your mailing address for receipt.

A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue. The service will be available by livestream at:
