Geraldine (Gerry) Elizabeth Budd (née McMunn), passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the Souris Personal Care Home.
Gerry was born November 22, 1925, in the RM of St. Andrews, MB, to Pemberton Deacon and Elizabeth McMunn (nee Carter). She was the beloved wife of the late Ken Budd and a devoted mother to Kirk, Frank (Gail), and the late Diane. A cherished grandmother, Kimberlee (Michael) and Alyson will dearly miss her. She is survived by her sister Ida Davis of Winnipeg and several nieces and nephews. Sister Margaret Fowell and brother John McMunn predeceased her.
Gerry’s early education was in a one room schoolhouse in McMunn, MB and she continued her education by completing one year of high school by correspondence. She embarked on her teaching career in 1941 working in Glen, MB. She attended Normal School in the summer for two years and then got her first teaching job in Boissevain, MB where she met her lifelong friend Muriel Turner and, on her suggestion, she applied for her next teaching job in Carroll. Muriel and Gerry were enduring friends and weekly shopping partners for decades.
It was there that she met Ken, and they married on March 24, 1951. Together, they built a life filled with love and dedication - Ken working the farm while Gerry continued to teach. Gerry lived a life full of love, kindness, and quiet strength. She was known for her warm heart, unwavering support for her family, and the many friendships she nurtured over the years. Whether sharing stories, offering wisdom, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee with loved ones and close friends, she brought light to those around her. She was a member of the United Church Women’s Auxiliary and Souris Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 60 years and always offered a helping hand. She was an avid gardener and made the best boiled raisin cookies!
A graveside service was held at the Carroll Cemetery on Saturday, June 14, 2025, a glorious summer sunny day.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Souris Personal Care Home for their compassionate care and special thanks to Kowalchuk Funeral Home.
In memory of Gerry, donations may be made to the Souris Health Centre Palliative Care fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health, Box 10, Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.
