It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eff, on June 27, 2025.
She was predeceased by Jack, her loving husband of 65 years.
She is survived by son Terry of Ottawa, daughter Wendy, granddaughter Shannon Lee Greenshields of Montreal and her many nieces and nephews.
Eff was born on January 13, 1928, in Farlane, Ontario. She grew up in Dugald and Winnipeg, attending Gordon Bell High School, and graduating from Angus School of Commerce with a Secretarial Degree. When she joined TCA (Air Canada), she was employed in Winnipeg and Montreal. Eff returned to Winnipeg in 1983, at which time she retired from Air Canada after almost 40 years of service.
Eff and Jack travelled extensively, and then after retirement spent 20 wonderful winters in their beloved Kona, Hawaii. Eff became involved in the community, volunteering for professional golf tournaments, Hula dancing, and was even bestowed the Hawaiian name Moana in Hula dancing. She loved the game of golf, having won the Lea Lea Ladies Gold Championship in Hawaii; she was a member of the Manitoba Senior Ladies Golf Team in 1983; won the Ladies Club Championship at Summerlea Golf Club in Montreal and also at St. Charles in 1988. She won the Ladies Club Championship at Assiniboine Golf Club 1060 & 1961 and Breezy Bend 1962-1965. She particularly enjoyed her many years with a very special and competitive ladies’ group the Eagles on Wednesday at St. Charles; this group having been established in 1975.
Eff was a vivacious and fun person and loved her family and friends. She cherished the time spent with her family and was a doting grandmother. Remember her with smiles, as she would want you to remember her.
A private interment, which will also include her late husband Jack, will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society.

I met Effie back in 2024 when I became the bus driver for the retirement home where she lived. Through our long talks, laughs, and hugs, she made me feel special — reminding me often that even though she had only known me a short time, I had become a big part of her life. Effie was loving, caring, and a wonderful storyteller. I learned so much about her two amazing adult children and her granddaughter, whom she loved dearly. She was hoping to visit them this September, but God had other plans. Rest in peace, my beautiful friend. You will always be remembered and loved. - Posted by: Joy Mueller (Friend) on: Jul 14, 2025

Effie was a long time friend of my mom, Muriel Bates, and her Matron of Honour. I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with Effie and her beloved Jack while visiting Winnipeg with mom. Naturally this included dinner at St. Charles preceded by cocktails at their apartment. In more recent years, following mom’s passing in 2017, I’ve remained in contact with Effie. I had the pleasure of visiting her when I was in Winnipeg in late May. She was missing her Jack so much. I have no doubt they are together in heaven. My sincere condolences to Terry, Wendy and Shanon Lee. Effie was a wonderful woman, a dear friend to my mom and also to me. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Mary Bates Andreotta (Family friend) on: Jul 11, 2025
