STANLEY ROBERT VIVIAN

Peacefully, on Friday, July 4, Stanley Robert Vivian passed away at home beside his wife of 62 years, at the age of 85.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edna Ellen Vivian (née Forke); his three children, Lisa, Valerie, and Robert Vivian (Linda); as well as five grandchildren: Taylor Vivian (Krista), Austin Vivian (Demi), Sean Kilmury (Ciara), Michaela Hallman (Andrew), and Shelby Maxwell (Scott); and great-grandchildren Flora, Lilah, Bodhi, Myles, Dustin, Morgan, Margot, and Felix. He is also survived by his siblings, Paul Vivian (Denise), Carole Kaus, and Marc Vivian (Laurie), along with several nieces and a nephew.

Stan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1939 to Charles and Antoinette Vivian. He was educated at St. Paul’s School and served proudly as a Naval Cadet before graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating, Stan was employed doing research for the University of Manitoba’s Department of Pharmacology, where he became highly skilled in computer programming during the early era of computing. He then began a lengthy career with Digital Equipment of Canada in both Winnipeg and Ottawa. After retiring from Digital, he founded his own company, Verity Consulting Ltd.

Stan first discovered his love of travel as a Naval Cadet, journeying to Amsterdam. He also travelled to Scotland while working for the University of Manitoba, and later to many wonderful places during his time with Digital Equipment, often accompanied by his wife, Edna. Together, they enjoyed cruises and Caribbean adventures, and spent several weeks each year in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Stan adeptly designed and built five basement renovations in their various family homes, often exceeding the standards of professional contractors. He cherished spending his spare time with his children, going camping, canoeing, going to cottages and beaches, and taking multiple family trips to Disney World, often driving in the family car while towing a camper trailer.

Cremation has taken place. As per Stan’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. Interment will take place at a later date.
