Elfrieda Dyck passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on March 17, 1934, to John and Annie Epp.
Elfrieda was preceded in death by her husband George in 2004; parents, John and Annie Epp, sister Helen, and brothers, Ben and John. She is survived by her children, Gary (Brenda), Heather (Robert) and Christopher (Dana); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother Verne; and sisters, Anne and Helga.
After growing up on the family farm in the Elm Creek area, Elfrieda completed her high school at MCI in Gretna. She attended Provincial Normal School and obtained her Teacher's Certificate in 1954. She started teaching in one room country school in the Boissevain area where she met her future husband, George.
Mom and Dad married in 1956 and moved to Brandon where she attended and volunteered at Grace Mennonite Church until she moved to Winnipeg in 2021. She attended Assiniboine Community College and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1974.
Through Mom's working years she worked in various job including bank teller, teacher, receptionist at a doctor's office, LPN and medical librarian. In her retirement years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Ten Thousand Villages Store and the MCC Thrift Store as well as visiting family and friends.
Mom enjoyed driving; from driving tractor on farm as 12-year-old to providing rides for her friends to various functions well into her retirement years.
Elfrieda enjoyed playing softball as a youth and into her adult years. She later enjoyed watching and supporting all her grandchildren in their various sports activities.
Thank you to the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for the loving care that they provided during her time there.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with viewing starting at 1:30 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend at https://fweb.tv/189793.
A private interment will follow at a later date at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elfrieda's memory to the Mennonite Central Committee.
