Melvin and I we were classmates in grade school at Maple Leaf. We played a lot of school sports together and were very competitive. I have an x shaped scar in the centre of my upper lip (now covered by a mustache). It stands as a reminder of an accident that happened on a sleigh ride field trip from school. We were horsing around throwing each other off the wagon and as I was running to catch the wagon someone threw Melvin off and he flew at me feet first hitting me in the upper lip. Little did I know that the heel had come off of his Beatle boot and there were nails sticking out where the heel had been. I was bleeding all over, but with the help of a snow pack we got it under control. I remember being able to breath through the hole in my lip for awhile before it started to heal. I've had a mustashe since I was old enough to grow one. The scar is still there and it always makes me think a wonder about my pal Melvin. We played organized baseball together for a few years and hung out a lot. We lost touch when I changed schools after grade 8, and our lives took different paths. I often reflect about Melvin and hope that he had a good life. My deepest Sympathies to his Family. I take comfort knowing he will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Till we meet again old friend, rest in peace. - Posted by: Brett Armstrong (Childhood friend and classmate.) on: Jul 20, 2025
