ECKHART WEGNER
It is with sadness in our hearts that we say goodbye to Eckhart Wegner, a loving father, Opa, and UrgroBvater (great-grandfather). Eckhart was a man who worked hard and for whom family and friends meant the world.
He died peacefully on July 22, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital. At his side was Mary Wegner (ex-wife and dear friend), a caregiver in Eckhart’s life for many years.
Mary and Eckhart had two children together, Kenneth and Susan, two grandchildren, Oliver and Amy, and one great-grandchild, Marlowe, with another expected near Eckhart’s birthday on October 9.
He was grateful for Abraham, a dedicated caregiver, and for his close friends, Milton and Sandra, who each held a special place in his life.
Eckhart was a baker till the end. As many of us know, just a few short weeks ago he was still sharing beautiful and delicious cheesecakes with us and his neighbours.
In his final hours, Eckhart spontaneously shared a traditional German rhyme which was a reminder of how he lived his life:
“Was du heute kannst besorgen, das verschiebe nicht auf morgen.” (What you can do today, don’t put off until tomorrow.)
Even at the end, Eckhart offered us wisdom: to live fully, act while we can, and rest peacefully when it’s time. Eckhart lived with purpose, generosity, and a deep sense of care for those around him. His presence, his baking, and his quiet strength will be missed.
A private family goodbye will be held at a later date.

Over the years of seeing Eckhart I was always impressed with just how much life there is to live when even bound by a wheelchair when you think life’s rough think again …he always inspired me to keep my head up no matter what life throws your way.
