JAMES (JAMIE) COLLINS

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James (Jamie) Collins on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in his family’s home. After five weeks of being diagnosed with ALS, he had a rapid decline and passed away in his sleep.

Jamie was predeceased by his father James (Jim) Collins in September 2024.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving mother Lucette and brother Glenn (Shannon); his uncle Gerry Chatelain (aunt Leslie), cousins, Christine (Chris) Jackson and Bennett, cousin Jennifer (Rein) Kai and Everleigh, Stephen (Carrie), Westley and Blake, his aunt Paulette Chatelain (uncle Bill), cousin Erica and her daughter Ivy. Jamie was her “special” uncle that was a big part in raising her, his aunt Lauraine (uncle Clem), cousin Anne-Lise (Tim) and Loic. Also left to cherish his memory is his aunt Lib Downes, cousin Greg (Andrea) Garrett and Marshall, cousin Mike (Sanja) Ana and Zoe, cousin Lisa (Martin) Olivia and Maya.

James was an amazing, fun and gentle man with a great sense of humour who had a love of walking everywhere, music, sports and animals especially his best buddy Emma the dog. He also looked forward to weekend getaways at the lake.

Jamie was full of secret talents like magic tricks and drawing cartoons, and he rarely shared, only with those he was close to. James retired from Toromont Cat, formerly Powell Equipment at 55 after over 30 years of employment.

During his short-lived illness, Jamie did not do without. His brother Glenn made sure to grant Jamie his every requested meal and drinks, as he was known as “Fast Food Jamie”, while Erica took care of his medical appointments. Together they made sure Jamie was cared for and comfortable. Jamie wanted to watch the UFC fights with Glenn and Erica. They enjoyed this night together, where shortly after in his sleep Jamie passed away.

In following with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

  • James was a valued worker for Powell/Toromont and he has never been truly replaced. The page of scratched notes he kept for machine transactions he was working on appeared to be chaos but he could always find the stock numbers and details he needed from days or weeks ago. There was nobody who knew how to find decades old information in print or electronic like James. Not everybody got his jokes but those who did loved them. After he retired the legend of James grew and people from other branches always ask after him. We still call the part of the office he worked "James and Brenda's corner" - the dream team of sales coordinators. What a legacy. - Posted by: Jon Hunt (Co-Worker) on: Jul 29, 2025

  • My uncle Jamie was a very loving and special man. Every Friday almost my entire life he came over bringing gifts for me and my mom and we’d order pizza or Chinese food. He was always there to support me during the difficult times and never failed to make me laugh when I was taking life too seriously. I’m literally named after him. I remember when I was little he would always pull a nickel out of my ear. I miss him very much. Rest in peace uncle, with Love Ivy Marie and Jamie Châtelain. - Posted by: Ivy Châtelain (Niece) on: Jul 26, 2025

  • I remember Jim from the late 80's at the 'Zoo' and in the Osborne Village area. I washed his hair once at a mutual friends place on a hot Summer day, lol. Jim was always kind and full of life. Condolences to his Family. - Posted by: Diana Roth (The 'Zoo') on: Jul 26, 2025
